Gamble and Marshall...step into my office

Gotta give them some slack. Giants have an outstanding set of receivers. Could argue they have the best trio of receivers in the league. I knew we would struggle defending all of them.

They did make some serious coverage mistakes though, but I think that's just rust they'll be able to shake off as the season goes on.

The Giants receivers? :nonod:

They're middle of the pack right now. Their Steve Smith is good. The rest aren't that special.

We made them look better than they are, today.

Yes. Manningham, Nicks, and Smith each accounted for nearly 3k yards in 2009.

I didn't say they were all elite, but together they make a pretty good trio.

I think that has more to do with this guy.

He's not his brother, but he's not bad either.

Smith is good. Nicks is getting better but still raw. Manningham? Not a big fan.

Like I said, we made them look better than I believe they really are.

I like Gamble BUT!

After watching the game again I took some notes JUST on Gamble. He did not play too bad MOST of the game, HOWEVER that #20 was seen sliding around on the ground a few glaring times all during a short window of GAME TIME.

1) 3rd quarter 03:29 when #82 Manningham stood there flat footed while he dove at his feet behind #82.

2) 3rd quarter 03:02 when he was WAY out of position on #82 Manningham from over commenting to the inside and then seemed to just wait for #30 Godfrey to hit the guy.

NOTE these happened to be BACK to BACK plays! Maybe he was gassed??

3) 4th quarter 11:44 when #44 Bradshaw walk right bye him for a score.

I will say it looked like #30 Godfrey was having to pick up some of the slack today (at least during this part of the game). I bet he #30 is really sore after all that running to help someone out of position or when they were failing to make the hit and stop someone.

Between the two, Marshall was worse. Gamble wasn't that bad, but wasn't great either.

In my mind, both were equally bad today. Marshall got caught gambling without the right help over the top while Gamble flat out let his man get behind him without safety coverage. Moreover, I can't tell that there was a play in front of him to split his attention. He's supposed to be our shutdown guy and he was getting toasted all day.

Maybe he is used to being able to make the cuts on turf that isn't wet, but I lay at least 10 points at his feet today. Our front 7 did too good to have this mess kill us on what is supposed to be a strength of our D.

The other was the 2nd half breakdown of our OLine... but that's another discussion entirely.

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
