Oh lawl. I am still supporting Jimmy personally, as a backup and as a potential starter with the right coaching and given enough time. Panthers should have picked up a guy on FA last year, and have had him compete with Moore instead of handing him the job.

When Moore failed (if he did, maybe competition did him good?) someone else would have came up and Jimmy wouldn't have had to be rushed in as a starter. That is what made him fail, not everything had to do with his skill level.

Would be interesting to see how much the season would have changed if we picked up someone on FA last year to beat out Moore on starting position or go to backup. :\ Silly last year Panthers.

Was reading through articles -- I mean its 5:45 AM and all, nothing much to do but wait until Mike and Mike ESPN Radio comes on -- and I found something really great from Blaine Gabbert...

“Being a backup quarterback in the NFL is the easiest job in the world because everybody thinks you are better than the starter,” Gabbert said. “That couldn’t be more wrong. That changes real quick when you start playing on the football field.”

Really sums up this thread, how everyone thought Jimmy was going to so good coming into the starting position after he was suppose to sit behind Moore that year and grow. I personally wouldn't have started him, hired a QB from FA and let fans bitch etc while I let Jimmy develop. Of course, while he wasn't only rushed in starting he probably didn't have the best coaching out and about. So er, yeah. :\

Would be interesting where we would be right now if Jimmy sat behind Moore or another QB the entire year, probably would've drafted a DT first round or something like that. ^^ People should give me their ideas on what you think about what would be different if the scenario above played out.

(would have made a thread but I'm not at 100 posts, I don't spam very much)

Newton is much better at moving about then Clausen was last year (haven't been to any of the practices, I dunno about this year), I believe this will help Newtons play a lot, I am projecting that he gets a 76% QB rating or somewhere around there. Anyways, I forgot what else I was going to say.

Oh yes, I remember, lets hope that Newton doesn't turn into something similar to The Golden Calf of Bristol, he doesn't have a good QB to learn behind of. :\

The Golden Calf of Bristol was teh most over hype player ever. He should never have been drafted in the first round. Cam atleast looks and throws like a QB.

The Golden Calf of Bristol could be developed into a good QB, but yes, he shouldn't have been drafted so early. And, it was pretty silly for Denver to have drafted him. Cam could still end up being just as sloppy, or near or more so sloppy at passing as The Golden Calf of Bristol is. I heard plays where Cam had some terrible throws, but whatever, we'll see. :3

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
