Goodson - Key to the D-will scenario?

With Goodson coming along nicely this season, and Stew not getting many reps, is it possible that the FO is strongly considering thier options about re-signing DeAngelo?

They are obviously rather committed to Sutton as well, since it was rumored he was trying to be aquired by other teams for draft picks and the FO didnt even consider it.

I wonder if they are getting comfortable with the idea of a Stew, Goodson and Sutton committee. By keeping Stew's reps down, they are making sure he is getting 100%, so he may be able to carry the load if need be.

just a thought, i would hate to see D-will leave this team, he is one of my favorite guys and is the best RB our team has ever had. but, i can see a scenario where he is traded.

that might explain why they have kept him out a bit to start off.. he is saying he feels good..

if we sign both RBs, I'll be surprised, but it is possible.. I think it's much more possible that 1 gets traded or walks.. I think whoever it is Goodson will fill in just fine.. obviously not to the same level, but there is a reason we are the only team in NFL history to have 2 backs run over 1,100 yards...

More than likely it's just the play calling. Davidson (or Fox more than likely) sucks at it, and as a result, JStew isnt seeing the field for the "3rd and short" downs as much as he should. Hell how many short yardage situation have we had other than the 4 times we've had in in the redzone?

My guess is not much.

Conspiracy... not buying it. Incompetence on the part of our coaching staff... buying it.

I also think part of the idea is that if we get a new coach next year, we may not have the same offensive plan. so why would you go out and sign a guy like D-will to a big contract when you have some young guys still playing under rookie (read: cheaper) deals only to not utilize them as the primary focus of the offense?

There are a lot of other factors at play this season, CBA, lockout, multiple extensions that need to be signed, and the entire direction of the franchise due to the HC position being undecided next yr.

No one is gonna get a new deal until the new CBA is done. Marty doesnt want to handcuff himself with a bad deal just because he doesnt know the rules for next year yet. During his tenure he has been a master of putting together deals that were very cap friendly in how they paid out. When he knows, there are gonna be a lot of deals done.

I'm actually not opposed to DW being traded. I'm really liking Goodson this season. He's actually turning out to be that scat back he seemed to be coming out of college. And he'd provide a nice second punch to a 1-2 with big J-Stew. DW just hasn't seemed to have the same fire he usually has this season. I hope Clausen can help out with that a bit this Sunday!
