Fox: Too Early to Name QB for Next Week

Don't know if I would want to ride out the season with Clausen at this point. I think he needs more time to show what he can do. On the other hand Moore is a rookie in terms of game experience and could just as much be the future as Clausen is.

At this point we have to see if Clausen is better than Moore or whether Moore's struggles were because of a poor supporting cast as well. Truth is if Clausen struggles again next week, a case could be made for playing Moore again. Or at least giving him a chance again.

No, we should not play Moore again this season. That has trouble written all over it. Unless he gets injured, we have to keep Clausen has our starter for the remainder of the season regardless how bad he plays. Let the guy take his lumps.

THere is no reason we have to be saddled to Clausen if he continues to struggle. At this point there isn't any confidence to kill with Clausen. He has played one game and we got killed. If we get killed again next week and he struggles, he would have to do the same thing Moore did. Root for whoever is the starter the next game. I really doubt Fox is going to keep Clausen in if he can't help us win. He thought Jimmy would give us a spark and at least for 1 game it didn't happen. If he can't get the job done then it makes sense to give Moore another shot. At least he got the ball to Smitty.

In between lofting ints into triple coverage, yes.

You stick with Clausen because you gain nothing by switching back to Moore. Even if Moore was any better (he's not) all you do is pad out a few trash wins while the QB who will still be here next season gains nothing.

Doesn't make sense to me. Clausen is supposed to be our future, not Moore. If that's the case, then he should be starting period.

There's only 2 options

1. Either you let Moore play all season regardless of how bad he struggles.

2.You replace a struggling Moore, for the rookie for the rest of the season without looking back.

I agree with this 100%

Depends on who you talk to. Those wanting Clausen think the season is lost and that he is the future. Those wanting Moore say now that Clausen has shown he isn't the answer either, it opens up the competition again and gives it more perspective.

Fox is going to go with whover gives them the best chance to win now unless he gets overrulled by someone higher.

People complained Fox waited too long on Delhomme and this time he didn't. Doesn't mean he can't switch back in a few weeks, It isn't like Jimmy has done anything yet to win the job.

alot of moore supporters point to clausen not playing better than matt as a reason to put him back in and vice versa but to me the fact that moore & clausen are EVEN at this point says more about him than clausen. after 4 seasons of learning under veterans & playing some he should be further along

    • It's also worth noting that Cam himself said that he felt safer when running vs. sitting in the pocket because he could see the contact coming and prepare for it. A QB running the ball doesn't have to be a sledgehammer. He just has to be effective.
    • That Falcons game is about as good as it gets. Especially on the road. I know the Falcons defense was bad but he was cooking with Coker, an undrafted rookie get the bulk of the receptions. If your QB has 5 TDs and 0 turnovers he is playing like a top QB, yardage be damned. The big question for me is how consistently can be play the whole season?  I don’t expect a game like that every week, but I also don’t want to see any performances like the pre benching or that Cowboys game (which was bad post benching). Bryce’s best shot at being the guy is becoming a mini-Burrow who is about as consistent as you can get at the QB position.  The good news is this QB class should be a fun one. So hopefully Bryce becomes the guy, if not it’s a nice class to let DC pick his QB and they should come into a great situation with a good OL, RB, young talented WRs etc…
    • Bryce Young is far less risky with his body when he runs than Richardson and doesn’t take many unnecessary big hits. Was much more worried about injury when he had that abysmal OL his rookie season than I ever would be when he runs/scrambles. 500/10 seems like a fairly reasonable prediction considering he had 250/6 in 12 starts last season. Of course literally anybody CAN get hurt, it’s just that we were assured by many huddlers that it was a sure thing with Bryce Young that he wouldn’t make it to this point in his career without significant injuries.
