Statistical Oddities

All of John Kasay's field goals this season came in week one. He's had one extra point in each game but the team hasn't had a field goal in the past two weeks.

Kasay's 12 points put him tied for the lead in team scoring with Steve Smith, who has two TDs. The only other guys in the competition are Jonathan Stewart with a single touchdown and Greg Hardy who has a safety on a blocked punt. Broken down by unit, the offense has 18 points, special teams has 14 and the defense none.

The scoring tally for the season is 32 points. Ten times so far this season, other teams have scored more than that in a single game (one team tied it).

TE Jeff King, officially the team's starting tight end, has only 1 reception for 13 yards. Gary Barnidge, officially the second TE, has none. Third stringer Dante Rosario has seven. Similar to King is Tony Fiammetta, who has only one rush, no yards.

Backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart both have more receptions (3) than Dwayne Jarrett (2, both coming in week one). But Mike Goodson blows them all away thus far with 9 catches, trailing only Steve Smith with 11.

Highest kickoff return average right now? Not Mike Goodson (21.7) or Captain Munnerlyn (23) but Jordan Pugh (24.5 on 2 returns).

As far as kickoffs, the Panthers have only kicked off nine times, with five of those coming in week one. The leader in average yards? Rhys Lloyd with 64.3. Todd carter's lone kick went 60 yards. John Kasay's four kicks averaged 57.

Leading interceptor? Charles Godfrey with 3 (James Anderson and Captain Munnerlyn have 1 each). Leading tackler? James Anderson with 29, just one ahead of Jon Beason.

And perhaps the most surprising (and saddest) of all, the defense that racked up an amazing 19 sacks in preseason has racked up only 2 since the games started counting, with Dan Conner and Charles Johnson being the sackers. Right now, we have only one more sack than we have safeties.

It's been a weird three weeks :(

(maybe I should have titled this "Statistical Misery")

I wasn't sure where to post this put, but a thread about random stats should be the spot i guess. There have been some rumblings from individuals complaining about Jimmy Clausen on here the past few days. This morning on Mike and Mike they pullled up a stat i found interesting. Through 3 games (ik its only 3 games) Mark Sanchez is the 3rd highest rated QB in the NFL and has thrown 0 interceptions(6 td's) so far this year. Peyton Manning is No.1 at 9 td. 0 int, and Vick is No.2 at 6 td, 0 int. Ik stats can be misleading and Sanchez is no Manning, but I thought it was interesting to look at. fwiw
