Fire Trgovac

Well I support him ALONG WITH Fox. Because I know that when the players execute properly the scheme will/does look excellent. WHen the players do not execute though...it makes the coaches look bad. The only case of a badly COACHED game would be this past weekend IMO (I don't study games though). Where we let Fitzgerald run wild on us. But even then the players should have stepped up and stopped him...bad scheme or not.

This "scheme" has looked bad too many times to just be credited to the defense playing poorly and not executing. Coaching has to be the source for some of the bullshit that has been plaguing this defense for years now.

Trgovac will be here next year, mark my words. And even if he does leave it doesn't really matter. Fox will get a guy that will go by his philosophy and it will be just like the Henning to Davidson change. Sure there are some minor differences but Davidson and Henning run the same offense. It would be the same if we got rid of Trgo, we would just get another guy who would play soft zone and the bitching would move to Fox, and you guys would be calling for his head.

I support Trgovac. His scheme is too complex though. When he dumbed it down early in the year the defense was great. I have no clue what happened when Fox got involved mid-season though, and they stunk it up. I think he's a hell of a lot better than he gets credit for being around here, and I also like Fox and Jake.

If Trgovac is developing the same problems with Fox as Henning did, he's out of here tomorrow. I think he might be anyway, as part of a "time for a change" type of thing. The next guy will employ the same defensive philosophy though, that's what Fox wants and that's what he'll get. Then everyone will get to hate on the new guy for a while, and in the meantime Trgo will enjoy success at his next team just like Henning has.

How is the scheme too complex and what exactly did he do to dumb it down? It's easy to throw out generic poo to try and defend the guy, but let's get into specifics.

I'm not smart enough to know how to describe the complexity, I'm repeating what players and other coaches have said about his defenses. Earlier this year, the reporting out of training camp said that he had really simplified things, that his playbook had gotten too complex over the years. They responded by being a top defense in the league for the first eight games. So I'm not being generic there, nor am I making anything up.

I respect Fox. I think he's one of the better coaches in the league. For the money spent and the competition at his level, to have the success he's had over the past seven years is impressive as hell. HE obviously sees something good in Trgovac, even if I can't at times. So, instead of wasting time trying to tell people how awful the guy is and wondering why Fox can't see it (and making up things like "blind loyalty"), I try and figure out what I'm missing. When Trgo took over, we had a veteran defense and they became dominant. Over the years we've gotten younger and suffered for it. To me that suggests that his complex patterns are a bad fit for the current personnel. Maybe you see it different, the only one who's opinion counts though is Fox, and he isn't talking. :)

    • Cooter, Kurb, others have passed on to glory….  Praise be.
    • Oh good for them! Hope this is the start of a long happy time in their lives here.
    • There was no reason to believe in either Cam or Jake as a top tier elite QB before those seasons either. Cam was an "athletic" QB in most people's minds and his passing skills were open for debate. And there was a bit to that as he was still trying to get that massive power in his arm tamed to be able to put some touch on his passes. And then, he did it. Missiles became bombs, the firing lanes became points of finesse. Cam grew up and leveled up, while still retaining the ability and drive to truck people whenever he wanted. And Jake... no one freaking believed in Jake except Jake himself. He got, and let's be honest with this, one chance in a losing game to make something out of his career. And he rose to the occasion like some kind of mythical hero and continued to do so for the season. He became a true leader for the team, and his gunslinger capabilities rehabbed Moose's career and created Smitty as a force in the league. Smitty went from a barker to a biter. But no one believed in Jake going in. And they trashed him on his way out. Now Bryce... who knows? I've seen some improvement. Maybe he finds his footing. His teammates seem to love and respect him and that means a lot. The game should be moving at his speed now. He has weapons available to him and maybe a defense that doesn't just roll over by the third quarter. And his coach seems to be moving this team in the right direction. Could he do it? It's up to him, if he can find the magic like Jake and Cam did. But don't doubt this, magic is really, really hard to find.
