Evaluation Season

This is A "Evaluation Season"...this is the reason play calls are so basic on offense and the D. is very basic in its scheme...the coaches,F.O. and owner are thinking with the changes to the nfl coming the way they are..they want guys who are able to excel beyond basic from basic..but for cheap..they figure if guys cant shine at what little we ask them to do..how can they possibly excel when really put to task..as a fan at first when i realized what was going on i kinda felt angry and sad that we would be sub-par at best this season..but i understand that the long term goals of the team...(to lead in the way in the NFL will be structured i.e "contract changes, more games) they well want to be ahead of the curb in the new way teams will have to approach rosters and the game...but thats my pie in the sky analysis...:D

I do believe that there is some evalutaion going on but not for necessarily the reasons you have stated.

When trying to rationalize the moves by the FO and the decisions by the coaches I get the feeling that the two are not in agreement. I truly believe that Richardson is directing this thing through Hurney to get an in game evalution of all the players on this team for the future.

I think that that decision was made at the time of the firing of JR's sons. I think he is as fed up as us fans about the direction of this team and he is going to blow it up. He knows what he has in the coaching staff and by the lack of extensions he is going to start over with that.

The next order of business is the players. You know you truly won't know what you have unless you play them. Under normal circumstances players sit and learn unless they are exceptionally skilled and catch on really fast. I think Fox is being told to play these guys now as much as he can so that we know what we have and what the organization has to do next year in getting players. How good is the foundation we have and how much immediate upgrades will need to be done.

What else can it be? I mean if you look at the things going on and the rumers floating around about the relationship between Fox and Richardson it has to be something close to this. The only sticking point to me is why is Fox going along with this? I mean why doesn't he just just walk away? He doesn't need the money and will have a job by the end of this season. What gives?

Also I think alot of the lack of intensity and urgency in the players (vets, the few that we have) has to do with the current CBA situation and Richardson. I think they are trying to make a point that you get what you pay for and are dragging ass at times. Just my worthless two cents.

Players are evaluated daily weekly and continuously. But making the defense bland and basic has nothing to do with it. Meek's defenses are by design simple and basic. They rely on speed and athleticism more so then deception and scheme. As such if you have the personnel to run it, you can be effective. Unfortunately when you don't have the personnel or you suffer injuries or a lack of depth/experience you aren't very good.

Personally I favor a defense which used more deception and relies on the scheme more than personnel. That way you can plug in other guys without a big drop off in talent. In a Meek's defense when you lose a guy like pepper's for example who isn't easily replaced, you experience an immediate drop off. Sure he is going to be hard to replace anyway, but have we done anything like run more stunts or disguised blitzes to make for lessor talent? Not in my book.

great points made by you guys who responded....its kinda good in a way..i think fox much like jake, doesnt want to leave....if we show better promise by the end of the season..the outcry from those who are in and know the nfl deeply will speak out saying look at what he did with such a young team and a rookie QB...that could give the F.O the cover it needs to resign him as coach..they may be banking on that...if that fails though i truly believe meeks will become the new HC..it would make the most sense for the team in the long term....though this season my suck...i have hope for our team to become great next year

Why exactly would a coach who needs to have a good year this year to either earn an extension from this team or show some other team why they should pay him what this team won't agree to an "evaluation season"?

For that matter, why would all the assistant coaches, who would likely lose their jobs and may not have the name recognition that the head coach has, agree to something like that?

This is just another version of the whole "tanking the season" deal, and it makes no sense in real world logic :nonod:
