By the Stats: Clausen Outplays Brees

Carolina Crazy V2

Lol you guys must be joking. He completed 11 of 21. That's barely more than half. That's mediocre by itself. The fact that his only TD was on absurdly blown coverage is also mediocre. At no point did he threaten to make a big play and he threw some really bad passes.

Again, I'm glad he didn't turn it over and for the most part he's very smart with the ball. I just hope we continue to see him improve.

Yep. You expect too much of a rookie qb. A rookie qb that was training with the third and second stringers up until about two and a half weeks ago.

The fact that he is improving on previous performances shows progress. Which is all you can ask for.

Actually, I don't expect too much of him. At no point did I say that he should have done better or that I expected him to tear it up. In fact he played just like you would expect a rookie in his second start to play.

All I'm saying is that he did not outplay Brees and was not exceptionally impressive like everyone seems to think he was.

He didn't make a single "stupid" pass. He threw some into the dirt and was out of sync with his recievers 1 or 2 times but overall he looked great for a rookie.

The clock management was probably his biggest folly. As far as purely passing he's looked pretty good.

I am a Clausen fan, BUT...when are we going to stop qualifying everything (for a Roookie or for his 1st, 2nd... NFL start, etc.)?

Wins are what matter in this league.

Clausen does not yet have control of the team & needs to be living & breathing everything football until he gets it together. He has the talnet, but b/c Moore got the reps in training camp...Clausen needs to devote an unbelievable amount of time to studying. It will help him get the team lined up without having to waste timeouts...that is on Clausen, not the coaches.

You are also not giving credit where it is due...according to the NFL stats and the way they calculate them...Jimmy was better than Bresus today

Its in black and white...there is no argument you can make to disprove this

only thing he didn't get was a win!

Exactly!

Moore didn't just "get benched" He got benched after 10 starts in the NFL as well as an entire training camp including 3 preseason games with the starting offense. He got all the looks early on and had months to develop a rhythm with the offense.

Clausen literally got thrown in there very similar to a backup quarterback after the starter gets injured. He's making progress and that is what matters. The Panthers played turnover free football on offense today if nothing else.

No one is saying he was amazing. Just that he has looked good. He looked good for a rookie starting his second game with limited practice with the starters this off-season/tc.

Considering that Brees is a seasoned vet that has a sb ring and has long since built a chemistry with his receivers, it may not be the best, but I'll take JC having a higher qb rating than Brees and run with it.

Also, Brees fumbled this game, Clausen didn't.

when you're 0-4, you take what very little pleasure there is to be had. lol

did you know that Wins and Loses were stats and that 76% of all stats are made up?

The Huddle calculater computed that 42% of the facts stated here by posters are incorrect 97% of the time when read by 74% of the posters here.

That kind of attitude is for losers. Trust me, I am not calling you a loser, but if we accept mediocrity, then how do we ever get better?

I am not happy with just looking better, I wan to see wins. I think Clausen will get there, but he's not yet. Look at how long the Panthers have given Jarrett the 'needs more time' excuse? This is not a comparision between the 2, but just a point. Results are what matter. If he played a spectacular game & lost, what does it matter?

That kind of attitude toward Fox, Davidson, Richardson and whoever, I agree with fully. Concerning our rookie qb though? I don't think it adds up. You know?

**Clausen has been improving every game, not much more you can ask of a rookie qb with the Oline letting every defender in the pocket.

    • Jack Roslovic: Only 2 other UFA, right-handed centers age 28 or under had more points (39) than him- Sam Bennett (51) and Pius Suter (46). There were 4 other centers age 33 and older who scored more: Gireaux (37), Marchand (37), Tavares (34), Granlund (33).  Unless the Canes go old, if they let Jack walk, they won't get a center who scored more.  Thoughts?
    • nope     This is why we come back every year.  Hope springs eternal
    • It's important to differentiate criticism and hate. I can't speak for that individual you quoted. But most people who have been critical of the Tepper's have been so because both of them have made it a point to put themselves front and center and in the middle of team operations and we have been largely horrific more often than not as a result. If people are making derogatory remarks about her that should be met with an appropriate response but if people are being defensive just because she's being criticized all I can say is people should get used to it. Both her and David would have been getting absolutely skewered by the media and the fans if this were a big market franchise. The Lakers are finally being sold off after years and years of public criticism of Jeannie Buss and even though I'm the furthest you could go from being a Lakers fan just about anyone you could meet who is familiar with the NBA would say the criticism was certainly valid.
