How important was Mike McCoy

Delhomme was an undrafted QB and in his second year as a Panther, was in the SB. Under McCoy, he and Smith had some of the best stats of any QB/receiver combination for a couple of years. When Smith was out on IR, he and Moose were one of the best QB/receiver combos in the NFL. Delhomme also had one of the highest post-season QB ratings for the 2003-2005 seasons. And in McCoys last year with the Panthers, they went 12-4. Since leaving to join the Broncos, the Panthers are 8-12.

Not all the credit for the wins is McCoys nor are all the losses - but still. Look at what is happening in Denver now.

As of today, Orton has the second most passing yards through four weeks in NFL history! In addition, he's completing around 67% of his passes with a 96 QB rating.

Now I know McCoy doesn't call the plays in Denver but still, you can't ignore the success Delhomme and Orton have had while playing for him.

Someone speculated he might be Fox's replacement. Given his production, I might just be fine with that.

What do you think?

hmm. Interesting.

I wouldn't be astonished if he was Fox's replacement now that you mention it. However, I think people were kinda glad he was gone when he left around here. Doesn't mean much since I think this board celebrates every departure like it will fix the franchise forever.

If he can tap into Clausen's potential, I'm all for it.

regarding QB coaching, he spent most of his time trying to be Jake's friend instead of coaching. He had no prior experience coaching before coming here, he only got hired in Den because he knew the same offense. He was OC without the playcalling, and QBs coach - now he's not QBs coach anymore, McDaniel's little brother is. Ben McDaniels was such a hot commodity, they stole him from...

...no one. He coached two years for UMinn and then nobody until now. So, McCoy was doing such a great job, he got replaced by nepotism.

I'm not saying the guy is a total abortion, but people only defend him now because they know him. He does very little good from all I can tell.

And, before we go all crazy saying he was better than Scherer,

So, meanwhile, what suggests he can run an NFL team? Being McDaniels' lacky?

I won't pretend to know what goes on at camp or in practice but even if he did, so what? The results speak for themselves and jake did have success while he was here.

So what? Wouldn't you say every coach at one time didn't have any experience and yet was still hired. I would think a coaches results would matter more than their prior experience when gauging them for a promotion.

I'm not sure what you are talking about here as I haven't read anything concerning McCoy on this board.

2008. Detractors of Scherer say he screwed Jake up, but Jake was garbage in 2008. He earned the trust of some QBs and that's great, but evidence suggests he just didn't coach guys up that much.

And yes, you want your head coach to "coach". It's not "head friend."

sure, every coach. From Rich Kotite to Bill Walsh. The guy lucked into a cherry job here and then lucked into being a guy available under the same offense. Great for him, but I haven't seen evidence he did anything to be worth running our own team. So, did you?

Ben could've been an offensive QA guy or a tape guy. He could be a ball boy for his experience. McCoy's actual duties were lessened. McDaniels himself does most of the work, which IMO is ill-advised.

      My projection. I think at WR its time to go with youth. This means Moore should be the odd man out. Horn can return both punts and kicks and Tremayne is a better WR than Moore. XL gets one more year to prove himself, although I could see a trade in the future which would mean Moore could stay. For OL, I would like us to bring back Brady if we can. The RBs, Trevor can return both punts and kicks too. With the uncertainty of Brooks and Dillon, its hard to choose either one. I think the team would like for Brooks to have a breakout season to clear any uncertainty that he deserves a spot. For now, I have them both even and on the team. DL looks solid as well as OLB. Watch out for the UDFA of Aaron Hall and Isaiah Smith at OLB. They look promising and could knock someone off the team. ILB is still the biggest weakness on the team. We need to upgrade that any means necessary.       His contract is guaranteed.  Legette is just not where he needs to be mentally.  Not fully invested, it seems.

      Literally like Hill. He's not QB1 material (now or ever), but if we can turn him into a H-back and use him like  Swiss army knife, that's his ticket to make the roster.  H-back/emergency QB.  I wonder how good his hands are?  If they are at least above average by NFL standards then we can line him up in the backfield, in the slot, split out wide and of course, in the Wildcat.
