HDMI Cable

So, about a year ago I purchased an HDMI cable to use for my PS3. I purchased a $130 Monster Cable. I'd like to get another one for my Xbox that is in another room from the PS3. After I spent a pretty substantial amount of money on the first one, I read online that there really is no difference in quality if you purchase an expensive one or a cheaper one. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Yea. I've played guitar for years and always used monster cables. If it breaks you take it back and get a replacement for free. Lifetime warranty. Still though, that's a lot.

I have 2 $130 monster cables and 8 $5 ebay ones at my house. Could not tell a difference on my 75" or bluray between ebay and monsters cables.

HDMI is digital. It carries nothing but zeroes and ones. It could be made of a wire hanger and have the same performance.

(Okay, not really, but you get my point. All high speed hdmi cables are manufactured to the same specifications.)

I got a 6-ft HDMI cable from amazon for $2 once. no difference. Monster cable = biggest ripoff ever.

In my defense I got monster cables when HD TV's 1st came out.

I was amazed people spent that much for a HDMI cable without even researching it haha such bullpoo, exact same thing. How much are monster av cables like 100ish? lol

In a perfect world the idea that all cables are created equal is in fact true.

The reality though is that you get varying degrees of materials and craftsmanship. With an el-cheapo cable you may get a connector that's poorly soldered and clamped on the cable. Or insulation thats susseptible to interference from other sources. Or wires inside the cable that are misaligned or not wound to spec.

You might never notice a difference in the 5 dollar no-name cable and the 100 dollar one. Then again you might wonder why you seem to have worse motion blur than your neighbor seems to.

For my money, after spending what I did on the TV and the Blu-ray player the extra cash for a nice cable seemed insignificant. But I did buy a 30 dollar one for the cable box because its just not capable of the throughput that some of my other sources are.

I think a nice balance between these concepts is the cables at monoprice.com. The cables are of good construction, and the videophiles I've interacted with over the years seem to love them. And they're inexpensive.

from my understanding this is true of analog, not of digital. digital works or it doesn't. construction quality is certainly a concern but it isn't enough of a concern to spend 20x the money on it.
