2004: We started 1-7 and were a 60-yd FG from the playoffs

November 14, 2004: The 1-7 Carolina Panthers played the 1-7 San Francisco 49ers. It was the Toilet Bowl Game of the Year. The Niners jumped out to a 17-3 lead at halftime before the Panthers roared back to score 34 points in the 2nd half to win 37-27. That was the start of the Panther comeback in the second half of the season that ended a 60-yard field goal attempt against the Saints away from a playoff berth.

October 24, 2010: The 0-5 Carolina Panthers play the 1-5 San Francisco 49ers. It's the Toilet Bowl Game of the Year so far. Matt Moore is coming back and will be under ZERO pressure to do well. With the Devin Thomas signing, it's likely that we won't be starting any rookies this week. If we beat the 49ers and get 89/Otah/TD back in the next few weeks, who's to say that we don't make it back into the playoff race?

That 2004 year saw TWO 8-8 NFC teams make the playoffs. Look at the current NFC standings. This conference sucks ass. We have an easy schedule the rest of the way.

Stand and cheer for the Panthers

Stand and cheer for the team

The pride of both Carolinas

And city of the queen

Carolina!

Oh, nothin' could be finer

Than to be in Carolina

For a Panther football game!

From the mountains

To the Ocean

Carolina, Carolina best of em all!

From the endzone

To the endzone

Carolina, Carolina carry the ball!

Oh, nothin' could be finer

Than to be in Carolina

For a Panther football game!

Carolina!

KEEP FIGHTING! KEEP POUNDING! NEVER SURRENDER! GO PANTHERS!

Well said man. In my opinion, the 2004 season is what solidified John Fox as an upper tier head coach. Given the amount of injuries he had to deal with, I think something like 16 players on IR by the end of the season, it definitely showed his abilities to make adjustments. And I was actually at that Nov 14th game in 2004. It was in San Francisco and man was that sweet coming back on the road. That was the start of a great comeback. Remember Nick Goings having like 4 straight 100 yard rushing games? Moose leading the entire NFL in TD's that year. Where did that fight go? Where did that John Fox go? In my eyes, that was probably one of his best years as head coach for the Panthers.

I'm hoping my 9ers can go on a run the rest of the way. We do have a very weak schedule and are in a pretty weak division... so I guess you never know!

this thread isn't about you guys doing it.....it is about your 49ers getting beat and sparking Carolina to get out of the gutter for a miracle run like in 04.

I still have some faith that this team can turn it around. Thinking about the playoffs is ridiculous but I can see this team being much improved by the end of the year. The problem isn't talent, it's just that talent is very young. The oline should get back in shape whether Otah comes back or not, the WRs should be more comfortable and the running game should get better.

The season is a wash but we might see some good football down the stretch.

WHY is the playoffs a pipe dream? We're only 0-5 and in a better spot than we were in 2004 at 1-7. No one thought we had a chance in hell at the playoffs then either.

Why not now? Get the 3 players I mentioned back healthy, let Moore play loose, completely open up the playbook and have fun with it....why CAN'T this team make it to 8-8 or 9-7 in theory?

A lot of people don't want to hear this, but we had Jake then, and he was great that year. I haven't given up on Moore yet but I wouldn't be surprised to see his career go either way.

    • No poo tho you might could Jenkins for Legette. They got nothing at WR after the big 2 in Cincy. I don’t think you trade away OL depth. Could get a quality player in cuts. Really that 3-4 end spot what you should be looking for is someone who is stout with long arms and can push back the OL in both the run and pass game for others to make plays…. But we signed Wharton, sometimes I think Evero is a fraud ass nerd who should be an analyst at best.
    • you would honestly probably do Monroe Freeling more of a disservice by putting him in a position where is not yet ready to succeed. .we all knew Monroe Freeling struggled at the NFL combine in drills because of technique related issues & would need time to develop  & now all of a sudden before they even put the pads on Monroe Freeling is somehow a starting LT in the NFL ? if he struggled at the NFL scouting combine what do you actually think is going to happen in a live NFL game at LT ? .even our best LT of all time was not ready to start at LT when he was a rookie & he turned out to be a pretty good darn LT by the name of Jordan Gross ...just saying be patient Young Jedis
    • well i could go on & on but i will just highlight it by saying big difference trust me from the SEC & NFL.it's honestly like comparing apples & oranges especially when you are talking about a  LT. in the NFL you are going up against the most athletic freaks of nature the world has to offer . .the NFL also has much more exotic & complicated defensive schemes than what they are used to seeing at Georgis &  finally but most importantly you have to learn how to master complex bio mechanics where the body kick steps instantly as a reaction to these world class athletes rush without really making a conscious effort it's more of a learned muscle memory  & it can take thousands upon thousands of reps to master rproper technique for a LT in the NFL especially if you are still very raw like Monroe Freeling is    ...just saying
