James Anderson: We're Not Out of it

Besides that, free agency is usually just as good for upgrading the D-line and the Panthers will have plenty of money to spend this time. Honestly, I don't think our D-line is that bad anyway. Sure, they're giving up some rushing yardage, but look at where they are ranked overall. The D has been playing good enough to win. They need to start better though

Heck, even Nick Hayden has been making some nice plays recently.

Check it out, our D is ranked 8th overall...http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?archive=false&conference=null&role=OPP&offensiveStatisticCategory=null&defensiveStatisticCategory=TOTAL_YARDS&season=2010&seasonType=REG&tabSeq=2&qualified=true&Submit=Go

Who wouldn't have been happy with that back when we all thought the D had been taken apart by the FO?

i would much rather us improve DT through FA than go through the draft. same with RG. i'd even throw WR in there. more than 3 WRs drafted in two years is not something i'd be a huge fan of.

Well, you can give up and hope for a top 5 pick if you want to, but I sure as hell don't want any of those players or coaches to take that defeatist attitude. Like I said, the 49ers have been picking high in the 1st round for years...

Yeah I know that. I guess I'll just say that I'd rather the Panthers win games than lose out the rest of the season for a top draft pick, when chances are they won't take the player I'd like for them to take anyways.

The way I see it is if they are able to win games with the team now, then they'll be fine next season with or without that top draft pick.

I can deal with that cause most people wanted us to get Carr in 2002.

Who is even worth a look at DT in next years FA?

1-5 means nothing on a young team. If this was Delhomme, Moose, Hoover, Kemo etc 1-5 I'd be confident the season was over.

We don't know who mos of these guys are. We saw Matt Moore and David Gettis show signs of brilliance this week. If Moore starts beating secondaries with Gettis getting one on one, next thing the other team is not shifting coverage to Smith, they're taking a safety out of the box, Otah eventually comes back, the run game returns.

Credit the defense for playing tough through this difficult stretch, they'll be needed. I think we could fight for a playoff spot, we just need to win some close games in the next few weeks.

as likely as it is that we make a late run: never have we made a run late in the season and made the playoffs..

2 sides to that story..

I guess your opinion just depends on whether you're an optimist or a pessimist. I prefer optimism because the alternative sucks.

I guess your opinion just depends on whether you're an optimist or a pessimist. I prefer optimism because the alternative sucks.

for many years I've been an optimist because there are factors I can look at and say "I'm optimistic about this scenario"...

being an optimist just to be one means nothing to me and says nothing to determine my character in the least bit.

I find it to suck more to be an optimist when a situation doesn't present realistic expectations..

if events turn around and there are optimistic factors occurring, neither you nor I have won anything before said situation turned optimistic... I am just as much at peace with our current circumstances as you may be in your current "optimistic" state of mind..

I cannot change a thing.. if things do not go as you think they will and our owner has done nothing to change results on the field, then I will not be at peace.. I will be pissed..

as to your point about catching fire late in the season.. I am not pointing out an optimist point of view or a pessimistic one, just a fact.. from there you can run in either direction...

when I see a team to be optimistic about, then I will be right there with ya... at this point in time, I'm not buying in just for the sake of buying in...

well, I am not buying in. this team is done. when they made the move to Clausen they killed this season as anything other than reps for guys to grow.

that said, you have to support Anderson and his statement. He can't see it any other way.....

the team is much more likely to miss the playoffs than not.. this I agree on.. but there is a small chance they aren't done yet.. (I know, perhaps it's splitting hairs, but there is always a chance)

everyone should support Anderson's decision to stay optimistic.. he's the guy that actually goes on the field and has to keep his head in the game..
