You can do the "best lineup" thing by process of elimination.

Who's better on the weak side, Davis or Beason? My answer would be Davis.

Who's better in the middle, Beason or Connor? With all due respect to Connor - and plenty of respect is due - my answer would be Beason.

If you look at it that way, then the best LB combo would be as follows:

MLB - Beason

WLB - Davis

SLB - Anderson

That is, unless you want to question whether Connor could play the strong side better than Anderson. Answer there? Don't know. My gut says Connor, but Anderson has done well too.

All of this, of course, assumes that Thomas Davis is healthy enough to play. Right now, that's far from a settled question.

Absolutely agree. I just don't know if Davis will be in mid-season form like the rest of the guys.

So what about a Davis coming off injury vs. a Beason in mid-season form?

How much would it take for Davis to get back in mid-season form? How much work will Beason require back in the middle (instincts tell me not much, but still a valid question).

Yeah, I've said before that I'd prefer TD sat out the rest of the year and took his time to make sure he's 100%. But, if he does come back, then I've already put my vote in for the Davis, Beason, Anderson lineup.

I also suggested that if we go that route and lock Anderson and TD up long-term that we should go ahead and trade Connor this offseason, as much as I like him, for maximum value after what he's shown this season. There was already interest in him this past offseason, so I'd imagine there'd be even more now.

At this point I would think that Davis would best be used in a rotation once he is completely cleared to play and in game shape. Rather than starting he needs to come in for a series or two and check things out and help him develop his conditioning and test the knee in game situations. He would be outstanding in the event of injury and perhaps by December could actually play significant minutes. At this point there is no need to hurry him but just make sure his knee is fully recovered so if you decide to resign him, he won't have unforeseen issues down the road.
