Question: Donovan McNabb as a Panther in 2011?

I agree we need a vet qb to ease Clausen or whoever's transition, but as far as McNabb....

so that would be a huge no (for those who don't like to read McNabb is too unfit to run a two minute offense....not appealing)

Honestly I know I'm going to get murdered for this but I really wouldn't mind Vick, and I'm pretty sure his contract runs out this year

WOW. Shannhan is really showing what a dick he is. Haynesworth and now McNabb. He just needs to STFU and let these guys play... Like I said, I'd gladly take him. I don't care how "unfit" he is... I've seen him scramble for 20+ yards like he was 25 years old at one time during the last 5 weeks, so that's b.s.

I'd gladly take his version of 'unfit' over ours lol. And really? I don't care if he gained 300 lbs. while standing on the sidelines that game, he's going in before Rex Grossman.

Shannhan is a pretty good coach. Haynesworth was unfit and was publicly a flaming jackass after he discovered they were switching to 3-4, so I can't blame him there.

I'm sure that there is a little bit of truth to both sides of the story, and if McNabb is willing to work and the Panthers are sure of that I would be more than happy to take him as a Panther. I feel he has not been given near the amount of credit he deserves for winning in Philly. He never had good talent and yet somehow found ways to win. But the last thing this team needs is a veteran slouching off

I gotta say I'm hurt.

I mentioned this yesterday, really in response to someone who asked about available FAs, and dear lord the 'banned' threats started

Yes he is West Coast O, he may not be able to run the 100 yard dash, who knows, not my favorite QB ever; but, seeing what we have seen this year, he could probably play as a starter until whatever QB, pick your name, can take snaps from center and not throw more interceptions than completions for first downs.

If his value is down, fine, he can be no worse than Rodney Peete, or Delhomme, or Carr, and god knows who else. Let him lead for a year or whatever and help coach the younger QBs.

...or he comes in as a backup while the #1 and #3 get reps.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
