Terrible QB play: Personel or Coaching?

I'm not sold on Luck. He looks good, but he has all fuging day to throw and his HC obviously out schemes most teams. He's being put in a great situation to succeed.

As for Clausen, that's easily fixed. Bring back the WCO to Carolina.

Clausen would probably be doing well in St. Louis or Cleveland, where they're not asking their QBs to do too much outside of short dump-offs. And Bradford and McCoy would both look like total busts if they were asked to run our current offense. We should be getting the ball to Smitty at the line and seeing what he can make of it. We should be throwing quick slants, a LOT of three-step drops, and bubble screens to our backs. What we should not be doing is what Delhommey describes in his post.

Above all, we should be trying something new instead of blaming execution. At this point, it's clear that the players we have are either incapable of executing properly, or not talented enough. Either way, it's past time for the coaches to claim that the plays would work if only the players all got on the same page.

The QB's are not the only ones that are stinking it up. The offensive line is terrible. They can not protect the QB and the RB's have no holes to run through. Whoever the QB is they are going to get kill with this offensive line.

I was in favoring Carolina picking a defensive lineman like Marcell Dareus or a wide reciever like AJ Green but after seeing the game today they better do at least three things: 1) Get rid of the offensive cordinator (This will happen after coach Fox is fired) 2) Draft Andrew Luck as QB if he is available 3) Reinforce the offensive Line by drafting a offensive tackle and guard with their 3rd and 4th round picks. They need to get some monsters like Cannon from TCU or Moffitt from Winsconsin.

I think by keeping their QB's and not drafting one or just drafting AJ Green and one lineman is not going to cure the offensive problems. Draft another QB (Luck), start to rebuild the offensive line, get a new offensive coordinator is the major shake up they need to make!

Both of your comments are spot-on, Cyberjag and Delhommey. Everyone with the exception of Fox has figured out that our offensive philosophy is not working. And Fox is going to stick with his philosophy come hell or high water, whether it suites the current personnel or not.

Ever noticed how much time the QB has in the pocket compared to other teams? Yesterday sitting at the game we noticed Brees had 2 to 3 times longer in the pocket before pressure was applied. Moore and Clausen barely have time to set their feet before they are getting hit. I think there is potiential in both quarterbacks if they are given time to throw the ball.

I agree the problem may be coaching also. Matt Moore looks more like Delhomme every time he plays. The lob passes into double and triple coverage. They definately need someone to help develop them also.

My dream scenario would be for Clausen to pan out like we had hoped sometime this year, that way we don't have to waste another pick on a QB and can get AJ Green instead; but, if Clausen doesn't show that promise this year, we should go after Luck.

I think Clausen was overrated because of Charlie Weis. He seems like another failed project and looks like damaged goods. I'd like to see whoever takes over this team be able to build it their way.

Matt Moore looks more like Delhomme every time he plays.

the problem is both the QBs and coaching.

both QBs need a run game to be successful...none of this set up the run with the pass crap. moore was successful because of the run game last season, and clausen needs the run game to lean on until he gets comfortable.

the biggest mistake the coaching staff made was in the offseason (outside of focusing on a possible lockout)....focusing on passing and assuming (ignoring) the run.

if you give the boot to some of the linemen who made the run game successful and then lose some to injury...what on earth makes you think the run game was good to go?

Every time I see Clausen in the shotgun I cringe. When you call a six second pass play but your quarterback only has three seconds to throw.... guess what he scrambles.

This stuff is so blatantly obvious it is driving me crazy.

Our run game just happens to be the worst in the NFL and our QBs followed suit.

It won't surprise me a whole lot if Clausen ends up on a WCO team and thrives there.

Loads of fans would scream "we blew it letting him go" of course, but it wouldn't be true unless we switched to the WCO ourselves.

It's a lack of factors... lack of an offensive line which results in poor protection and a poor running game... for starters. As far as the QBs just being terrible as QBs, period, well, Moore did well towards the end of last year. I think a lot of it had to do with just going out there having fun. Our season was pretty much shot, so Moore could just relax and have fun -- and in the end, he looked solid. This year, early on, I think he had a lot to prove and he just wasn't himself. Of course now, being as awful as we are, having too much to prove shouldn't be a concern for Moore and he should just go out and let loose and have fun and be himself, but that isn't happening. I believe he can, because he's done so. BUT I see the bigger issue with protection and us getting a running game going. Bottom line, you don't run for 100 yards in a game, your chances of winning are greatly dimensioned with 90% of QBs.

It's really the coaching staff's inability to develop a QB...with some solid QB play this team is at least .500
