Troy Smith, Vet QB for Next Season

I watched his first career start in London live. He did didlly squat for most of the the game missing easy passes while in the pocket. Looks best while on the move or forced into slinging it. Good arm that makes his decision making look better than it actually is. Didn't look too interested in running the ball except at the goal line. Basically he's a weaker, slower Vick who's more commited to passing than Vick used to be. An analysis which a year ago would have been damning. But now I say sign him for a cheap 5 year deal, get him convicted for a felony and then look forward to having an All-Pro QB in 2 years time.

I like Troy Smith. I think his lack of height and the hatred some folks may have for Buckeyes have blinded them to his talent. Drew Brees is another short QB and no one doubts him anymore. That said though Kyle Orton is my number 1 pick to bring in. That way Jimmy Clausen can sit back and learn a little instead of being under the microscope.

1st overall draft pick available to desperate team needing franchise QB.

Compensation needed backup vet QB, 1st round pick and 2nd round pick.

Our offseason plans need to include vet QB, RG, LT, DT, and WR. Oh, and a new HC and OC. My choices are

Orton, John Moffit, Derek Sherrod, Jerrell Powe, and Micheal Floyd. Ron Meeks and Kevin Wilson.

San Fran isnt gonna keep him. He will be out the door along with their head coach at the end of the season. He will be available for us, but we wont even look his direction. If we did bring him in, it would be as a slot receiver.

.....And here it comes.....

Call me bias, but Troy can play. He is pretty accurate and very mobile. Usually makes good decisions and is a good leader.

biased. you are biased. You are not yourself a bias.

But Carolina hasn't really made a good decision in the past 2 years. Peppers gone..

bzzzt wrong

    • It's actually interesting you mention Richardson because I've seen it suggested here Bryce will have 500 or more rushing yards and 5-10 rushing touchdowns this year. And if big Anthony Richardson can get hurt carrying the rock what's that tell you about the practicality of thinking Bryce won't?
    • I mean, I get why the media and some NFL and Carolina fans are saying that we don't have a real chance, but as many Huddlers should know, we won't know what we really have in this team until probably late September or early October at the earliest. And I'm not trying to be a homer, I'm just looking at things historically. Obviously I'm also looking at Bryce's "palatable" improvement the last half of last season (including being the catalyst for hanging with and nearly beating the Super Bowl participants), and the new additions that we've acquired overall. I'm also looking at the beginnings of a culture change--even if perceptibly subtle--to some degree indeed may take a foothold if things start falling the right way. But, overall, I'm still cognizant of the realization that things could just go south and that perhaps that Bryce could revert and flop, or that D & D (Dan and Dave) are not the answer, but I still am not ready to say "we're far away." Hell we could be close, albeit with growing pains, but even if we're on the course to bring legit in 2026, then guys like Ramsey would be welcome additions this season. That's just my take on it. I don't think we'll know that we're far away until some point in the season. If we can compete in the South...who knows?
    • You guys remember when the narrative on here was that Bryce would be chronically injured in the NFL due to his size and Anthony Richardson would be super durable due to his? You remember when the narrative was that Bryce was physically incapable of throwing a ball further than 20 yards in the NFL? You remember “I’ll stop complaining when he throws for more than 200 yards and looks like an NFL quarterback”? You remember when 60 sacks was his fault and not the offensive line, slow WRs, and terrible scheme? Pepperidge Farm remembers. It will always be something for some people. Whatever insanity they come up with will be quickly dropped to move on to the next thing. Bryce could have an MVP Super Bowl winning season and they would complain that we can’t run the tush push with him. It will always be something.
