yeah, it seems the only thing he could find for us going after grimm and not harbaugh is that we wouldn't spend the money. he's paying too much attention to what richardson did this year.

i have more reason to believe that richardson will shell out the bucks for a top notch HC than ever before. this year the franchise screwed up and it was as much his fault as anyone's. he needs to energize the fanbase and a selection like grimm just isn't going to cut it.

Yup, does he realize what Fox is making this year?

Fox is one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL. Until this year (with a lockout looming) JR has never hesitated to spend when it made sense to him, but because he doesn't spend wildly like Schneider or Jones people assume he won't try to compete with them dollar-for-dollar as soon as the CBA is resolved and there's no basis for that assumption except this one-year anomoly we're currently in the midst of.

On the flip side, there is much less pressure as the coach of the Panthers then in the white-hot spotlight as the coach of the Cowboys, 49ers, etc... People assume coaches want the "prestige" of coaching one of those organizations, but I think that's a falsehood in many cases. Coaches want to coach somewhere that is commited to supporting them in their quest to win championships and discounting this year, the Panthers have demonstrated that commitment as much as anyone.

Having the # 1 pick will be the trump card if Luck declares. I think most people realize the Panthers are a young, talented team with a few gaping holes in the roster right now (QB, DT, WR). Having the # 1 pick may be the determining factor in us pursuing Harbaugh as a HC, which would most certainly cause Luck to declare himself eligable.

In any case, it's going to be interesting to sit back and watch this all play out.

True..but the problem I see is if your Andrew Luck and thinking about coming out would you want to come to a cheap organization?

I know Richardson is not cheap but everybody outside of Carolina seems to think so and maybe Luck would too.

I think if luck is smart enough to go to stanford he is smart enough to do some back digging and not look at one season.

what are the assurances that the team you got drafted by the next year would be anymore willing to spend money. he could get drafted by any number of really and legitimately cheap teams that haven't been to the playoffs in years and that are a whole lot less stable situations than here.

give me one reason why jim harbaugh would want to come to the panthers other than the giant "what if" that is the panthers having the number one pick, andrew luck declaring, and the panthers committing to selecting him.

the man will more than likely have much better opportunities and more attractive suitors than the panthers this year.

i gave a couple, but i'll answer directly.

1) the program is in rebuild mode and he would be working with a blank slate. that is the kind of challenge he is drawn to, evidenced by his previous employments.

2) the team is young, which would be a similar situation to what he has in college

3) the team has a good deal of talent already on it, it just needs better coaching

4) you don't have to deal with an ass clown owner like he would in dallas, oakland, tennessee, cincy, or washington

5) he'd have a lot of family nearby

6) tax situation isn't all that bad compared with places up north or what he's got to deal with in cali.

7) owner is known to pay big money to coaches

8) good bit of connections with panther organization already

9) he favors a solid run game which is exactly what he would have here

10) panthers are near to his heart. he has an indy racing team named after them.

that's just a few off the top of my head.

While Harbaugh is part owner of Panther Racing, it had that name back in the 90s and he didn't play here until 2001. Even then, he never got into a game, which is pretty unbelievable when you consider that Wienke, D. Craig and Matt Lytle were the other QBs.

meh...just because i really want the harbaugh/luck combo doens't mean i'll cry myself to sleep every night and renounce my fanship.

sure, i may weep for an hour or two, but i'll get over it.

that said, there are some choices that i think would be falt our bad ones and grimm is one of them. there are a few i would be happy with. but he isn't one of them.

other choices (not in order)...perry fewell, rob ryan, mike zimmer, sean mcdermott, brian schottenheimer...i'd also rather have cowher or gruden than grimm. if you have read or paid attention to any of my other posts concerning those two, you'd realize that isn't a statement i'd make lightly.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
