This forum officially open for draft talk.....

We are stupid if we take Luck instead of trading down and gaining picks, namely getting our second back. A solid draft could have us back as a respectable team. Taking another freaking rookie QB first overall and failing to regain our second is S-T-U-P-I-D.

Well dude we are in the minority. I want to play the other side of the Luck Lottery. I wonder what San Fran would be willing to give up. Or the Vikings for that matter. We need a active FA, a loaded draft and a HC and OC. Luck is putting all your eggs in one basket.

Yes, but sometimes you have to take that chance if you want a franchise quarterback. I'm not saying Clausen can't be that guy, but I certainly don't want to put all of our eggs into that basket either.

You have got to have a franchise quarterback to win in this league, and we need to do everything we can to get that. Luck isn't a sure thing, but it sounds like the scouts think he's about as close to one as you can get.

I can tell you right now Clausen is not that guy, he may end up being an average qb with a west coast offense but he will never be a franchise qb. I wouldnt be that opposed to trading down for more picks but if Luck comes out its just too much to pass on. He's improved dramatically over the past year and he's still getting so much better, its hard to find a weakness

Have you not heard Farve may be coming back. Why would the Vikings want another QB?

I agree.Trading down is an option but assuming someone does not want to trade up which is usually the case what other options are there? AJ Green? The DE from Clemson? I dont think so for the 1st pick.

The only reason anyone would trade up to get the 1st pick is to get Luck and I know JR's not an idiot so I'm not worried about it. I guess if Luck stayed at school and someone really liked Mallet they would

I'm not totally sold on the whole "gotta get Luck" thing - or newton, or any stud QB for that matter.

For every "good" QB taken as #1 overall, there are just as many QB failures taken in the 1st rounds - some as #1 overall.

You don't have to get a big name QB to have a successful team - you just need someone that can evaluate the talent and then develop it.

ahhh some non - 1st rounders that turned out pretty good

Tom Brady = 6th round pick

Drew breeze = 2nd round pick

Steve Young - supplemental draft

Montana = 3rd round pick

Dan Fouts = 3rd round pick

so how bout TJ Yates, Stephen Garcia, Greg McElroy for instance - trade down to gain some picks and take a mid level QB.

2011 Nfl Draft Wish List:

Andrew Luck

DT/G/CB

Anyone care to give me some names of quality DTs, Guards, and Corners that could be available in the middle rounds? Haven't been watching too many college football games, just the big ones. Hurney has found some gems here and there in the later rounds and without a second, he's going to have to be spot on because we are hurting in those positions with an off-season such as this looming.

Connor, Munnerlyn, Hardy, Anderson, Johnson are all going to be central to success in the future hopefully. I'd love to throw a couple more draft steals in there with a DT, G, and CB from this draft.

Go Panthers!

    • It's also worth noting that Cam himself said that he felt safer when running vs. sitting in the pocket because he could see the contact coming and could better prepare for it. A QB running the ball doesn't have to be a sledgehammer. He just has to be effective.
    • That Falcons game is about as good as it gets. Especially on the road. I know the Falcons defense was bad but he was cooking with Coker, an undrafted rookie get the bulk of the receptions. If your QB has 5 TDs and 0 turnovers he is playing like a top QB, yardage be damned. The big question for me is how consistently can be play the whole season?  I don’t expect a game like that every week, but I also don’t want to see any performances like the pre benching or that Cowboys game (which was bad post benching). Bryce’s best shot at being the guy is becoming a mini-Burrow who is about as consistent as you can get at the QB position.  The good news is this QB class should be a fun one. So hopefully Bryce becomes the guy, if not it’s a nice class to let DC pick his QB and they should come into a great situation with a good OL, RB, young talented WRs etc…
    • Bryce Young is far less risky with his body when he runs than Richardson and doesn’t take many unnecessary big hits. Was much more worried about injury when he had that abysmal OL his rookie season than I ever would be when he runs/scrambles. 500/10 seems like a fairly reasonable prediction considering he had 250/6 in 12 starts last season. Of course literally anybody CAN get hurt, it’s just that we were assured by many huddlers that it was a sure thing with Bryce Young that he wouldn’t make it to this point in his career without significant injuries.
