Give Fox some love

Ok, maybe love is the wrong term to use for this situation. I am actually starting to feel sorry for Foxy. It is like he is playing an online match of Madden and is down by 50 in the 2nd quarter. Only this time, he can not quit the match. He is playing a shitty hand that was dealt to him and is keeping his cool rather well. I think that he is showing some true character and is going to do well with another team. JR is the villain in this city. Flame away.

I dont feel sorry for a guy that is getting paid 6.5 mil to coach a football team. Yes he got thrown into the wolves with this shiitty team. But I havent seen any kind of adjustments, anykind of sound gameplan or any type of willingness to prove Jerry Richardson wrong. When he looks for a job he obviously will be able to tell the next owner or GM what kind of shiitty card he got dealt but the guy doesnt even seem like he is trying. I have no sympathy for the guy.

Maybe sorry is the wrong term to use a well. Maybe I am taking about 90% of the blame I had towards him and moving it all to JR.

FO xis the same coach who had us going 12-4 in 2008 and even 8-8 last year. The difference is what JR did to handicap the team and strip away any veteran leadership.

Fox was dealt a ceappy hand and is doing the best he can. He has made halftime changes in several games for those folks still pay attention. I don't necessarily feel sorry for anyone making 6 million dollars nor do I pity him because I would trade places in a heartbeat.

Still I agree with the OP that he was given a crappy team to coach and frankly said if Clausen was starting we would be a world of hurt given Moore would be injured and we would be on a losing streak. So while not surprising it definitely sucks and most of the credit or blame doesn't belong with Fox.

Do not feel sorry or bad for Fox at all. First he was given permission this offseason to look for another HC job and would be released from the last year of his deal if he found one he wanted. Granted, he didnt want the Bills job and there probably wasnt another one he preferred over staying here so he decided to stay, coach this team and finish out his contract. He was given an out and didnt take. I also blame Jerry for just not firing him!! But I understand why he didnt. I also think its possible he already knew or had an idea who the next HC was/is going to be and that person either wasnt available yet or wanted to come back in 2011-12, but possibly would have if Fox did leave.

I also dont feel sorry for Fox because, whether true or not, he is not at least playing some players that are supposed to or may be the future!! Is Amanti Edwards THAT bad that he still cant return punts, or kickoffs, or play slot wr some during a game? or the not playing Pike over St.Pierre. It is bad enough having to watch this garbage, its worse with a lame duck coach who has no desire to really game plan, change things, or do anything different.

I dont really care anymore this season, I stopped a couple of weeks ago and am now officially on the lose out bandwagon and secure the #1 pick. That being said, I will still be there next Sunday and wouldnt mind if somehow we could know that Cincy beat Clevland :-)

    • If he has another good season, we're probably not going to get out of it, as that's just the nature of the beast. The salary cap goes up and salaries go up.    Maybe we won't have to pay him that high, but it will most certainly be in the neighborhood. As his season goes, so will his salary (provided that the two sides won't come together now (if there's anything even going on). https://catcrave.com/panthers-insider-sets-steep-ikem-ekwonu-extension-price-despite-rocky-nfl-ride
    • I mean, I think you will really struggle to find many prognosticators that don't have us in the bottom 5. Part of it is that we do have a bottom 5 overall roster(still true) and part of it is that we have more question marks than most rosters. Finally, we have consistently been a bottom 10 team for close to a decade now. Nothing is really a safer offseason projection that putting us there.
    • Dean Jones, the resident writer for Cat Crave, thinks that we should consider signing Noah Fant. Jones titles his article:  Panthers quietly handed perfect fix for overlooked flaw at just the right time He calls the TE position an "overlooked flaw," and even though I wouldn't necessarily go as far as that, I do believe that the Panthers would instantly buttress the position with a Fant signing. The Panthers just may throw out feelers, and there are connections.   "Fant played for Panthers' tight ends coach Pat McPherson for two seasons. He was also in Seattle with head coach Dave Canales and offensive coordinator Brad Idzik in 2022. This also happens to be a position group that is dangerously short of dependable options."   I guess it comes down to whether or not the Panthers believe that our guys can be the real deal, or at least fill the need that Canales and company have for this offense. I have been skeptical of the lack of TE involvement in the regular flow of the offense since Canales has taken over, but it may be because of the lack of legit and/or experienced personnel. Fant hasn't been spectacular. He is an apt move-TE though. He is a so-so middle of the pack-ish pass blocker. His run blocking grades leave a lot to be desired (save for one year).  I guess that I could see it, but I just don't know if Fant moves the needle enough to spend the extra money on him. For a first rounder, he's been kind of a bust in my opinion. He's still NFL-worthy, and he's still in the prime of his career. But, I think I'm more in disagreement with Jones about thinking Fant is the "perfect fix." He just may be a more expensive, albeit more experienced, option than we already have.   https://catcrave.com/panthers-quietly-handed-perfect-fix-for-overlooked-flaw-just-right-time
