Julius peppers is a very good player, one of the top 5 defensive ends in the league. But certainly not worth what we paid him last year, or what we would have had to pay him this year.

Charles Johnson is become a very solid defensive end, maybe top 15-20 in the league, and at some point in time, will have to be paid. We will be able to sign him for much less than Peppers.

Btw, it took Johnson 3 years to become a force. I expect the same for Hardy and Brown.

It really didn't

2008 (46.0% of snaps) - 7 sacks, 4 hits, 29 pressures, 17 Tkls, 19 Def Stops

2009 (53.4% of snaps) - 4 sacks, 2 hits, 22 pressures, 14 Tkls, 13 Def Stops

He was a best pass rusher behind Peppers in severely limited play time in 2009 and behind Brayton and Pep in 2008 with even less time.

For the record Hardy is on course for the following (projected)

28.6% of snaps - 2 Sacks, 7 Hits, 12 Pressures, 12 Tckls, 11 Def Stops

Pretty damn impressive considering how little they let this guy play. Give him the same opportunities as CJ had in 2008 and they project very similarly.

On topic

Johnson has proved he can play the run like the elite's, he is starting to prove he can generate pressure in every game regardless of what happens blocking wise. All he needs to do now is add in a couple of game changing plays that Pep could do at any moment.

CJ is a very very very good replacement for Pep, but Pep still is one of the biggests freaks to ever play the game. The man 'could' win a game almost on his own.

all world julius peppers

8 sacks

35 tackles 9 assists

1 int and 3 forced fumbles

CJ has had a great year and is improving just like we needed.

that said, stats lie....Peppers has been much more impressive this year than Johnson. Stat sheet doesn't big up all the ways a DE is impacting games.

Pep also has 7 defended passes to CJ's 1, but they've both hit the QB 18 times...

Don't get me wrong, I love me some CJ, but our system is setup in a way that is more beneficial to him (heavy rotation, switching sides, flat out rushing the passer every time) than Pep's dynamic role in Chicago... Pep doing more there shows that he is a more complete and well rounded player, regardless of the opinions of Panther homers...

Yeah, he makes a lot more money, but big deal... CJ might not even be a Panther next year because of that very thing...

Regardless of what Pep is doing, the whole defensive line is playing surprisingly well. We lost several veterans and didn't bring any high profile guys and they still do a solid job. I think Charles will do even better next year with more help and a few of the other guys will be great for depth when we actually do spend resources on improving the line. And somebody like Hardy, Landri, or Brown could develop into a consistent contributor.

      You making fun of or not realizing how important that actually is leads me to believe you don’t have either of those assets and are subconsciously upset about it, or you’ve never been in a position to be a leader and thus you don’t value good leadership which Bryce oozes with.

      I said this last night to family. You can look at Bryce as not a “strong and physical” presence and that’s not going to change on you can look at it, that this guy has the type of skillset that sets him up to only get better for the next 5-7 years every year. He’s not going to know less about the game next year than this year. His timing will be better, his pocket presence better (even though the guy works around a pocket amazingly in my opinion), everything is just going to improve every year and I believed he’s already proved the doubters wrong other than nut huggers on here who just want a big strong man to drool over.

      The Seahawks won an emotional, divisional, overtime rivalry game vs the Rams on a Thursday night (Dec 18).  That gives them 10 days to prepare for the Panthers, but the Christmas holiday fell a week later--I bet they were afforded an extra day for travel-many coming back east.  Following the Panthers, Seattle plays at San Francisco for the division title (in all probability).   The Rams finish the season with games against the Falcons and Cardinals, two likely wins, pushing them to 13-4.  The Niners finish the season with home games against the Bears and Seahawks. Seattle finishes the season with the Panthers on the road and SF in California.   It is easy to see how preparing for the Panthers, during the holiday break and with the Niners waiting for them in SF a week later for (what could be) the NFC West title and #1 Seed in the NFC, could create the perfect trap game scenario.  The Panthers at home are 5-2.   In the past 2 weeks, the Seahawks struggled to beat the Phillip Rivers Colts in Seattle and then pulled off a miraculous, emotional victory at home vs. the Rams.  I am not convinced that they are as good as advertised. Seattle is a TD favorite in Charlotte.  I feel that Carolina by 3 may be more accurate.  While I am still not confident in this team's consistency and it never seems to dominate, it sure feels like a trap game for Seattle to me.  How could they NOT be thinking of San Francisco right now?  They are not used to being in this position (current players) and it is human nature.  Carolina 27, Seattle 24.
