i expect fox to throw everything he has at the pittsburgh steelers

It's clear Fox is done at the end of the season... his contract won't be renewed. In a situation like that you might expect him to either not give a poo at all, or to coach balls-to-the-wall in all of his games, going for it when he ordinarily wouldn't, etc., in hopes if winning games.

Fox hasn't done that. He's played traditional Foxball... this was perhaps most evident against Arizona. We actually we leading a team with a legit chance to win... but Fox didn't try to rack up as many points as possible to show how good of a coach he is, he didn't try to convert a 4th down when in field goal range... in other words, he stuck to his style of play.

Whether or not you disagree with his football philosophy is beside the point. What's clear here is that Fox is auditioning for a HC spot next year. He's going to assume that any potential interviewers know just as well as he does what sort of position he's been put in by Jerry Richardson, and that he's working with very limited resources. He's not going to destroy his credibility as a coach by making playcalls that would be foolish in any circumstance. He's going to play Foxball, and that is a message to future employers.

That said, I think Foxy pulls out all the stops against Pittsburgh. At 2-12, Fox has two more shots to show what he has as a coach. And for a guy whose strength is purportedly his ability to connect with players, inspire their undying loyalty and lead them into the teeth of war, what better opportunity to stage an upset? If he could inspire the ordinary players - the Jeff Kings, the Bernadeaus, the Haydens, the LaFells, the Clausens, the Browns - to play at an extraordinary level, he could shock the Steelers at their seasonal zenith in front of a national primetime audience.

Going into the offseason where he is sure to be gone from the Panthers, what better way to show that his strengths can at least partially mask obvious weaknesses in the team? Fox doesn't care about Carolina getting the number one pick; he'd take the win against Pittsburgh any day over that. And he wants this one, he wants it bad.

I expect an inspired gameplan, inspired playcalling, inspired play, rookies looking like vets and, win or lose, a much closer game than any of us are expecting.

THAS RITE PANTHAS! WE GONNA WIN!!!!

Now... lets take the Panther's goggles off for a second.

I suspect Pittsburgh is going to throw everything they have at us too. They are in a dog-fight with Baltimore for the division title and a play-off spot. We are going to their house, and they have WAY more confidence and talent than we do right now.

No matter what John Fox does or doesn't do, it isn't going to be enough to overcome a team that is hungry and mean.

2-13

You may be right about Fox actually becoming aggressive but I seriously doubt it. But I consider it sheer fantasy to think the Panthers might win. I think Pittsburgh puts the beat down on the hapless Panthers. The spread is 14 but I wouldn't be surprised if they win be 24.

If you are a betting man you may want to lay some money on the Panthers money line at +750.

Unfortunately, this team lacks the talent to outright defeat the Steelers. I think they have more talent at every position group on the field, and that includes the injuries Steelers sustained on the OL. Barring a miracle (and hey, I'm all about miracles), Panthers don't have anything for them.

I expect an inspired gameplan, inspired playcalling, inspired play, rookies looking like vets, fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!

Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...

The dead rising from the grave!

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

And, win or lose, a much closer game than any of us are expecting.

Fixed:D

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
