Universal whine about Clausen thread

Oh I agree with you about DT .My whole point is that I don't think Carolina is gonna trade out to fix the Dline if Luck is on the board. Also with all honesty if Luck isn't in this draft, trading out will probably be damn near impossible

1.i assume that luck will come out.

2.i assume that you want a 2nd-round pick.

I like how nobody brings up the play where it looks like clausen get hit as he throws and throws an 8 yard pass. On the replay, the D lineman never hit his arm and Clausen was too wussy to follow through cause his throwing motion would maybe hit the lineman's helmet. He was scared of the contact. He almost threw a pick on the play though cause the pass was so poor.

I could overlook rookie mistakes, rookie failures, etc....

But this guy has not shown me anything at all that makes me even slightly believe he will ever be successful.

and.... if we don't get the#1 pick and someone else takes Luck - then get Ryan Mallet with our #2 pick.

but is your solution to stick with clausen or try to get an upgrade while doing those other things?

I feel like you missed my point. Would you like to see the ticket stubs I have from seeing Luck play? I certainly have them. As for taking up for Clausen, well, people on here overreact. I said already I'd love to have him as a backup or 3rd stringer, he has some semblance of potential and with a new coach could be better. It's happened before, believe it or not.

I never said we shouldn't upgrade though. If it were me, I'd like to have McNabb/Newton/Clausen. Or McNabb/Luck/Clausen.

Lucks passes flutter when they are 50 plus yards as hes falling down...Pickles flutters passes and cant see over the line..within 15 yards.

Chris Weinke is Better...today..if he was called..would do better. Last night with no practice. He would have 100 yards at least.

Are there plays set up to help Jimmy Claussen..Not relly.. Is Claussen capable of being a winning QB in the NFL..not for a few years.. hes as much a projectat QB now as Armanti Edwards is as a WR.

No, some of Luck's passes over the middle for 15-20 yards flutter.

If Luck doesn't come out and we can't get a decent vet then I can't watch next season. This is without a doubt the worst season in panther history. Even the 1-15 team was competitive in most games. Hurney needs his nutz smashed for drafting Clausen.

I don't agree there.... Yes on draft day I was begging someone to pick Clausen so we wouldn't.... But considering the situation he was not a bad pick. It's only a 2nd round pick.... if he turns into a star he's a steal... a bust he's only a 2nd round pick, and it's not like we hadn't had plenty of bust drafted in the 2nd round... Dwayne Jarret... Keary Colbert, Eric Shelton and I'm sure there's more.

I don't think any of us foreseen clausen's play being this bad. Yes some analyst had him listed very low, and other teams passed on him who needed qb, but I doubt any of us saw him being this terrible.

    • He’s kind of overrated to be honest. Never really felt like a true #1 or elevated his play to become a guy the defense really has to worry about.
    • I'm going to be real, the reason that vote ended up so lop-sided by the end was directly due to my programming. So there's nothing tongue in cheek about it. Also I left PFF after the Collinsworth acquisition (didn't want to move to Cincy) but have stayed involved in analytics via backdoor channels, but I can absolutely say that the experience was eye-opening, not because those guys are unquestionable football savants and that I became one by proxy, but because the amount of information that becomes available outside of what the typical fan has access to is revelatory and also really drives home how much context is still being missed even with all of that information. You don't discover that you know everything, you discover how much you still can't know no matter how hard you try, hence my point about the NFL not being able to figure out what makes a QB good. There's a lot of AI work going into that now and even that only seems to further confuse things vs. actually enlighten the problem. In the professional realm teams don't really talk about quarterbacks as A strictly being better than B, but how A can potentially perform better than B given a specific context of C. Of course those contexts may be wider for A than B, but there's also contexts where B can outshine A, even with lesser talent surrounding them. So what good teams strive to do is ultimately define a process of how they want their entire team to operate under schematically, find players that fit that scheme, and hopefully find a guy whose skillset will be maximized running that scheme with those players. Where bad teams fall of the wagon is constantly shifting those schemes and chasing bad fits or fads vs. sticking with a core identity and developing it.
    • there is a 100 mile long list of NFL players and coaches going to bat and defending horrible play from teammates.
