Saint J's eight month plan to bring the Panthers to relavence

1. Draft Luck...no hesitation. The Panthers have held out on drafting a real franchise QB for far too long. Luck is the best QB prospect to come out in a while as well. To boot he will be adeqaute enough early on to at least bring the Panthers back to .500.

2. Hire Harbaugh, with Luck in Carolina plus a bigger paycheck it seems like a no-brainer for him. He could stay in SF but without a shot at franchise QB, retarded management, and having to live in the same area where he just spurned a whole school and fan base isn't all that attractive. At Carolina you have a nice area to raise a family, a franchise QB he coached, an owner with reasonable expectations, and a non-crazy fan base.

3. Draft pass rushing DTs and WRs. It doesn't matter who, at this point you're throwing poo at the wall and hoping it sticks. Youth and potential is something you need at these positions.

4. Sign a big time DT in free agency or trade for one. This is the only big splash move Richardson has to make. If there is a pro-bowl caliber DT on the market or available through trade find him. Even that asshole in Washington would do as he would be playing in a 4-3.

5. Sign veterans to be mentors in two positions...WR and QB. Since Smith is alll about making sour faces and not doing poo it's time to find someone who can teach the young guys like Gettis, LaFell, and your newly drafted WRs. WRs take time to develop and they can always use a good mentor. Look at Roddy White with Joe Horn or a guy like David Patten for Meachem in New Orleans. 2nd you need a veteran QB, whether that's McNabb or Kerry Collins or anyone. Just a guy to help Luck out and start for a while if necessary.

6. Cut bait with Clausen...he's not NFL material.

7. Lock up the core of the team...Kalil, Beason, Anderson, etc. Lock them up and give them their pay day. Let DeAngelo walk, he's a great RB but RB is not a position of need right now. It's something nice to have, not necessary for success.

8. Keep Ron Meeks, while some of you want to cut bait with anything and everything Fox he is not really a 'Fox guy'. He coaches above what his talent is and will give Harbaugh a solid defense to work with.

9. OL depth...find it in the draft, FA, waiver wire, where ever. In 2008 the Panthers signed and drafted everyone asshole who was 6'5 and 300ilbs to play OL. Time to do it again.

10. Beat Atlanta this week.

Good write up, why do you care
one potential benefit is that the NFCS would probably become the best division in the NFC and could be among the best in the NFL.

right now we are the guys that is holding it back. we get a real QB and good coach in here and we are close to making it real.

I'm good with this, especially when the Bucs beat you. You won't stop Blount. It would be extremely enjoyable to see the Bears and Eagles with the byes .

The Saints had their best rushing day of the year vs. Tampa and I don't remember any of their backs being a factor.

    • He'd be a huge upgrade for this year, but we're still not going to be contenders with him and I'd rather keep the cap space to roll into next season to spend on a younger player who can be an impact starter for us for the next 3-5 years while we're hoping to contend.
    • Because playoff hockey and regular season hockey aren’t the same thing.  It’s a combination of the game intensity being dialed up with loose officiating.
    • The last 8 weeks, Nix had 2,022 yards, 21 TDs, 6 INTs on 70% completions While Bryce's last 8 games he had 1,709 yards, 12 TDs (albeit adding 5 more rushing), 3 INTs on 61% completions. I'm not going to pretend I watched those Broncos games to know exactly how Nix actually looked, but in retrospect, his statistics were better.  Hell, in just his final 8 games, Nix had only 5 less TD passes than Bryce has in his 30 game (28 starts) career. And you said he had better WRs than Bryce did, but I'm not even sure that's even true either. Sutton and Thielen might be completely different types of WRs, but I'd say they are pretty equal on effectiveness if not even a slight edge to Thielen (63.6 YPG for Sutton to 61.5 for Thielen).  Then XL and Coker vs Marvin Mims and Devaughn Vale, again, at worst a push, if not lean in our favor there too. Why is it so hard for some Panthers fans to just objectively look at our team/Bryce and be honest with themselves. ? He was significantly improved the final two months of the season from his first season and a half.  But he was still a below average QB during that time, even if he had a few good throws and clutch moments.
