was the armanti edwards trade the worst in franchise history?

Because we at least got a mediocre defensive lineman out of it for a few years. Think of him as Brentson Buckner for a more recent example or a slightly inferior Charles Johnson. That's still better than someone that will end up giving us the same productivity as Adam Meadows.

the production provided by him could have been provided by literally any free agent off the street.

If armanti stays on the team for four years he'll inadvertently back his way into just as many meaningless numbers as Gilbert did.

It's not like we won the superbowl any of those years and he was the overpriced luxury that turned out to be worth it (ala Reggie Bush). The best we did was what? 8-8? And we missed out on a guy like Torry Holt who would be the best player in franchise history to this point. Also if we get a few years of Edwards as a returner and third/fourth option, it's a sweep in every category.

I poo talk a lot about AE and it isn't deserved. I know he has not had his chance and I also know that the bad coaching/staff situation he is in will only delay his conversion from a QB to WR even more. That is ok though because I truly believe a guy like Fox could not possibly utilize him to his fullest anyway.

So in all fairness nothing is set in stone. However, until he shows he is worth a second and a third he won't get respect. All this means are his shoes just got bigger to fill. Marty knew there was a big risk this year. No one sees our expected spending numbers and doesn't.

If Gilbert was on the team today and gave us the same production as he did in 1998, that would easily put him behind only Charles Johnson (our supposed Pro Bowl-caliber d-lineman according to the Huddle) in terms of productivity. That's better productivity than our defensive captain Tyler Brayton has EVER given us.

Right, one year he was better than Tyler Brayton and, we gave up two first round picks and many millions of dollars for that. That's exactly what I'm saying.

Don't agree that its better. I doubt many others would. First round picks top 10 picks are much more valuable than a second rounder. If it was only one first round pick, you might have a point. But two is incredulous. There isn't a non QB player playing right now that would be worth two first rounders. Well maybe one or two, but thats about it.

That's the second time you went out of your way to take a stab at CJ...he probably is Pro Bowl worthy, he did better this year than Peppers and Peppers is in the Pro Bowl...CJ has 3.5 more sacks and 11 more tackles (the 2 most important stats for DEs IMO), Peppers has 2 more FF and that interception he got against us. Looks to me like CJ IS Pro Bowl-caliber.

    • we probably aren't interested (I would be).  But with the massive improvements on our DL via FA and the draft, the DBs will have an easier job this year
    • Why is it so hard for some people to understand its not about similar styles and one team is better at it than the other. Its about 1 team, us, that isnt even playing their own style and look demoralized from the moment the puck drops and then playing like dogshit. That is all on Rod.
    • Respectfully man if your entire argument is based off of a simple pff score lookup then your argument is severely flawed. There is a reason Mike Jackson signed a two year 10 million dollar deal and Jaycee is one of the highest paid corners in the league. Secondly, I don’t get the comparison to our huge need at pass rush last year. What does our massive and historic lack of talent at rushing the passer have to do with a weakness on this years roster?
