Harbaugh "near certain" to leave Stanford

Like I stated and has been clearly illustrated several times by several posters, you guys are really taking it all too seriously.

I never saw a link and therefore never even remotely considered the thread or its subject as being anywhere close to real. But the reaction from a good number of people made me chuckle, and it continues to provide a good laugh as you and many others continue to over react.

Just as you said, "...it is up to you to determine its value..." There was no source, therefore it wasn't credible. Instead of ignoring it and moving on, many of you have really gone off on this....

It's not so much the credibility or the lack of source as how it's worded.

Trying to make it look like it's an actual news story when it isn't will get you in trouble fast. Like it or not, those are the rules (and all the time, not just now).

If you doubt that, try posting a thread title like "Panthers hire Brian Billick" or "Panthers cut Jimmy Clausen" and see what happens.

I don't require all that. I don't see a link or source, I simply don't believe it. Never seen a message board require the journalistic source disclosure you guys are spewing. These are the only rules I've seen on the site:

Please don't misunderstand what I said. I opened the thread just like a bunch of other folks and I read the post. I didn't see a link so I simply discarded the thread... until a bunch of folks seemingly got pissed off about it not being true or credible. Then it became funny because it sure sounded like a lot of pissed of people were not pissed because of the thread, but because they got duped.

Like I said, the mods don't like fake news stories.

Officially listed in the rules? No, but like i said, if you don't believe it'll get you banned, try it.

I think that the Panthers have about a good as shot as any as getting Harbaugh here to coach next year. If he goes to Denver he may be stuck with The Golden Calf of Bristol instead of bringing in another QB, if he goes to SF he will not have nearly the talent level of the Panthers IMO, and if he goes to Michigan and doesn't do well then he may never get a shot in the NFL again as a HC.

Like I said, that's not how I roll. I'll always put up a link or quote.

And I'll stand by my guess that people are pissed because they got duped on the thread, not because it didn't meet some "unwritten rule" of source disclosure, as if this is the Associated Press. That is, except for you.

But thanks for your concern, nonetheless. I look forward to reading more of your well-researched threads during the off season dealing with personnel moves, the X's and O's of the Panthers, etc. Talk with you soon.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
