Honestly, trade Smith or the 1st round pick for additional ones

Um, the QB position has been at best pathetic the last 2 years. I think Smitty deserves the benefit of the doubt especially since he basically carried us offensively for 4 out of last 6 years.

Not when he has been dropping passes when he is wide open. First it was Jakes fault, then Moores now Clausen.

WBcanrun needs to go back to reading Dick and Jane books to learn some grammar but he has a valid point. There is a contingent that would like to see Smitty traded. If you are a Luck backer, you should have some concerns he will poison young Andrew too. He is not the steady patient WR a rookie needs.

Also with only two picks in the first three rounds Khyber's "youth changey" comment is almost silly as the originator (Palin). Look we have a ton of expiring contracts and holes in the roster to fill and going with young talented over OLD and talented is a no brainer.

Sign and trade Dwill for a pick between a late 2nd or mid 3rd.

Trade Smith for a third and a 2012 7th rounder.

Lots of variables after that. If Luck does not declare we go AJ Green to replace Smith. Or Peterson to replace Marshall. But if Luck declares we pick him unless his coach also leaves and goes to say San Francisco. Then we get on the horn with San Fran and ask for at least there 1st, the 2nd and a 2012 1st. Throw in Isaac Sopoaga and Alex Smith (sign and trade) and it would have to be considered.

Alex Smith has actually done pretty well in the NFL and if it were not for the stigma and pressure of being selected number 1 he would not be considered a bust. He is a serviceable NFL qb who could give Pickles time to develop and MENTOR him.

With the San Fran picks we take Prince Amukamura, Micheal Floyd, and have two first round picks in 2012. Use the Dwill and Smitty picks for trenches help looking at DT's and OG's.

If we trade out of the 1st and Luck is there, I am not really sure how I will handle it.

Like I said earlier, maybe we can trade back and pick up Ingram and another Linebacker in the 1st with the extra pick. Running backs and Linebackers in the first lead to tons of 8-8 seasons....

Har de har. Your funny. For those expecting a miracle season with a sophomore QB your setting yourself up for a disappointment.

Recent rookie QB's and how they have done.

Freeman was 3-7 his rookie year. Bradford went 7-9 and was praised for it. Stafford went 2-7 and has NOT contributed this year to their revival what a number 1 pick should. Sanchez went 9-7 but was carried by the team to that record. Matt Ryan and Flacco are success stories admittedly. But the flipside is Jemarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, and Matt Leinart.

I suggested bringing in a young veteran QB, and drafting line help and replacing Marshall. That is not drafting linebackers and Runningbacks two positions we DONT need help at. I will guarantee even if we stay in place with Luck we will address the issues i mentioned and likely NOT as well as we could with my proposal.

If Luck doesn't declare then trading the #1 pick should be the option. The only problem is that who do teams trade up for? Newton? Ingram? Mallet? Bowers? I'm not sure if any team will be willing to trade up for any player not named Luck. However, that all can change will one player making a push during the combine and one team falling in love with them. The good news is that with what looks to be so many changes at the head coaching position the likelyhood of a coach wanting player "x" to lay the foundation of his new team.

Now, if Luck does declare then you draft him 1st overall unless there is a offer made that can't be turned down. And I really doubt that happens considering the last two times that type of deal was done it completely blown up in the face of the organizations. Nevertheless, if a team is willing to give up everything and the kitchen sink for Luck, history tells you the Panthers would be on the better end of that deal.

As for Smith. I feel he needs to go and what we could get for him really doesn't matter. But I don't see it happening. It's a two-way street. Smith will not leave the Panthers and the Panthers won't send him away. I really hope I'm wrong about this because I feel that for the team to truely start over with a new coach and a new franshise QB Smith will only get in the way of progress. I hate saying that because I don't want to see Smitty gone.

Yes, my grammar can occasionally suck but oh well. I like your thoughts in trading with SF for their 1st & 2nd round pick. I hardly ever believe in rookie QBs & probably never will so I say forget Luck. Draft a DT & maybe another WR b/c i really don't believe Smith will be here next season

How exactly can Smith "poison" Luck? Smith gets pissed when QBs don't get him the ball, as the best WR we can I see his point. If Luck is as good as everyone thinks he is, Luck will have no problem getting him the ball. Where is the "poison" in that?

This is by far the dumbest thread ever created. You don't trade the number one pick with the season we just had when you have it secured, should he declare, for a position we desperately need. You don't build your team around any other position besides QB. This is our opportunity to build this franchise to the competetive level it should be. And you want to trade it away?

    • Schlereth calling us back to back....somebody call up Morgan!  Schlereth got that dawg in him!
    • I was just thinking — if Bryce had been the #1 overall pick without the massive trade-up, there wouldn’t be nearly this much anger and resentment toward him. The problem isn’t Bryce himself; it’s what Scott Fitterer gave up to get him and how the front office completely mismanaged the assets that followed. The picks from the Christian McCaffrey trade — one of our few major opportunities to rebuild with young talent — were essentially wasted. The second-rounder was used on Jonathan Mingo,  The third and fourth-round picks were packaged to move up for DJ Johnson, a 25-year-old rookie  who looked like a miss from day 1.  That’s brutal roster management. And when you add in other misses like Trevon Wallace and Xavier Legette—guys who were supposed to be athletic difference-makers but haven’t moved the needle—it just compounds the issue. Combine that with a string of awful free-agent signings (Hurst, Chark, Bozeman regressing, etc.), and it’s no wonder the offense looks like a mess. And this goes beyond Fitterer — it’s a scouting department problem too. For years, the Panthers’ evaluations have been inconsistent and reactive. They’ve chased traits and combine numbers over production and football IQ. The same front office that identified DJ Johnson as a third-round target somehow passed on multiple plug-and-play starters at positions of need. When your scouting process keeps missing on mid-round talent — the backbone of good teams — no quarterback can save you. The lack of depth and development across this roster is the real indictment. None of these failures are Bryce’s fault directly. But when the entire team looks lifeless, the narrative circles back to him. He was supposed to be the “force multiplier,” the “point guard” who elevates everyone else. Problem is, there’s not much “force” around him to multiply, and that style of quarterback play only works when the infrastructure is solid — coaching, protection, and playmakers. Look at the 49ers for comparison. If San Francisco didn’t have elite coaching, culture, and roster talent, that Trey Lance trade would be seen as one of the biggest front-office blunders ever. The difference is they had the organization to survive it. At least Bryce is serviceable — Lance isn’t even on their roster anymore. Put Bryce in the 49ers’ system and he’s probably putting up Brock Purdy-like numbers. The bottom line is this: the dysfunction in Carolina didn’t start with Bryce Young, and it sure hasn’t ended with him. This is a franchise problem — years of poor drafting, weak scouting, short-sighted trades, and constant turnover. The common denominator through all of it? David Tepper. Until the culture, patience, and football operations at the top change, it won’t matter who the quarterback is.
    • I really like Carson Beck’s talent level.  Needs to make better decisions sometimes but I think he could be really good.  Looks like Miami is for real.  Pitt might be interesting at the end of the year but they almost certainly win out
