Gantt v. Schefter

JR never denied that Harbaugh COULD be considered in the "process".

Not really.

I don't believe we'll get him, but I think you're reading too much into it.

I am not convinced that Gantt was wrong.

Neither am I.

If they came out and said that they had talked to Harbaugh, given the timeline, it would be an admission of tampering.

Worth noting that the Panthers willingly tampered to get Dom Capers (lost a compensatory third rounder because of it).

And for those who remember the 2006 Midnight Vigil, how many believe those contracts for Hartwig and Kemoeatu were written between midnight and 1am?

Honestly, JR didn't sound like someone trying to cover up the activities of an organization, he sounded like someone who had never even heard or considered Jim Harbaugh... either that or he is trying to strengthen their bargaining position by making Harbaugh have to be the one to make the concessions.

I honestly am taking it at face value; Hurney & JR haven't talked to Harbaugh, JR has no idea about him. That does not mean Morrison or someone hasn't talked to Harbaugh but today really put me off the idea he'd be coming to Carolina.

Except of course there are no rules as far as NFL teams talking to college coaches during the football season.

I was fairly certain that was the case too. Wouldn't be any different than another college poaching some coach right before their bowl game, which happens all the time.

Actually, there are. They can't go outside the organization during the season. That's why you always see "interim" head coaches, and also why you've had no official reports of anyone talking to Harbaugh before now.

If they allowed for teams to go outside, teams could just fire their head coach with a few weeks left in the season in order to get a "jump start" on the rest of the league. More than one team did fire their head coach this season. Do you have any reports of them talking to anyone - college or pro - prior to now?

What was John Elway representing the Broncos doing at the Orange Bowl game last night then? It could still technically be called "in the season". And it was pretty much common knowledge that Elway was sent there to sweet talk Harbaugh into coming to Denver.
