Offensive Coordinators

source? Most coaches don't leave their current posts to become coordinators. They're almost always staff that aren't under contract because of termination.

Actually, the league allows teams to determine whether they'll let a coach talk. The NFL only forces assistants to be available for interviews for head coaching roles, considering elevation to OC or Assistant Head Coach to be lateral moves.

I like this option more than any other I've seen. Rivera as coach with Ramsdell at OC and then maybe Rivera's old team mate Mike Singletary as DC. I could see that as a great coaching staff.

Then like you said bring in Bulger or Volek to be the backup/mentor to Clausen and Pike for 2011. Re-evaluate Clausen after he gets time with someone who has a clue about developing QBs and then draft a QB in the 1st in 2012 if need be.

I also like the idea of Jim Zorn as a OC. Sometimes you have to overlook times in a coach's history and Zorn is one of those coaches. He should have never been the head coach in the first place and on top of that he was working for Dan Snyder. I would be happy with Zorn as the OC.

Yep. There's plenty of other possibilities, but Rivera-Ramsdell/Zorn/etc. sounds pretty good.

I just want someone with a solid reputation with QBs to be part of this team. If we can do that, I'll be excited.

edit:

My Candidates (no particular order; its a pretty solid list imo):

Joiner

Ramsdell

Clements

Zorn

McDaniels (likely not coming here though)

Cowboys wide receivers coach Ray Sherman will reportedly not return for the 2011 season.

Sherman's contract expired after the 2010 season, though he was still granted an interview for the head coaching job that went to Jason Garrett. With Garrett given full reign over his coaching staff, the inference is that he didn't want Sherman back. Long considered a top position coach, Sherman won't have a problem finding a job elsewhere.

King said could bring Ramsdell.

Peter King of SI.com is hearing that the Panthers will give Chargers DC Ron Rivera a second interview Sunday.

King was the same source that reported Rivera as the early favorite to land the job in Carolina. It's a great fit, as Rivera figures to revamp Carolina's defense and could bring along San Diego's QBs coach John Ramsdell as his offensive coordinator, a veteran known for his ability to develop young quarterbacks. If there's anyone that could turn jumpstart Jimmy Clausen's stunted progress, it's Ramsdell.

    • There is quote from Canales somewhere when we hired him.  He was blunt he isn't some creative mind.  He was going to come in here and do X......and that was going to be closer to Foxball than anything we have seen.   And that largely has held true.   It's why he REALLY needs that Jake Delhomme type.  Baker was that.  The downfield gunslinger.   Big plays exist in his O.   You need a gambling QB to go make them downfield.  Bryce pulled the trigger once this week.  But he is just bad at it.  It was that Tmac deep ball that ended up being a PI.  Tmac had his dude beat.  That was the homerun ball this O sets up.   But Bryce underthrew it.  Tmac had to slam on the breaks and come to a full stop and wait for it.    Those just aren't Bryce's throws.    Sure we got the PI.  Some might celebrate that aspect.  But that throw highlights Bryce doesn't make those throws well.  Your WR shouldn't have to come to a complete stop and wait....when he has the guy clearly beat for the over the top play.  That's what the entire thing sets up.  Bryce rarely takes the shot.  When he does, it's generally not a great ball.
    • Sorry to hear that man. Keep that chin up, Panthers aren't worth taking up any headspace. You got this
    • Kinda of like when Hurney went on a GM search as a consultant and the best candidate he found was himself, lol!
