Lets focus on Marshall

I know we are disappointed in Lucas but lets look at it this way...this could have really been a coming out party for Marshall. He led the team in tackles last night with 10 and had a great sack where he beat Warrick Dunn and got to Garcia. But that wasn't even the best play he made all night...how about him catching up with Antonio Bryant and forcing him to step out of bounds?? That was on busted coverage too...he saved Lucas and Godfrey's asses on that play with his pursuit. So instead of focusing on the negative lets focus on the positive aspect that we have in Marshall. Next year he really should be our starter to see what he is really made of. Put Lucas in the nickel position if we don't want to release him but there is no reason not to have Marshall as a starter in his 3rd season.

I have always liked Lucas but I said at the start of this year (not on here tho) that he was losing a step . . . . . last nite he lost a few more!

Marshall hasn't been that impressive this year though. Sure he hustles, but he hasn't been as good as a coverage corner as he is made out to be.

Next year may very well be when we can't afford to pay Lucas. For his price tag we can pick up a nickel in FA or draft and release Lucas if he keeps playing like this.

I have not written him off just yet...I am hoping that he will get back to form for the playoffs but last night he was pure $hit.

I disagree with this whole heartedly. I love Marshall, i was the first to buy his jersey when he came here. But Ken is still superior. Marshall busts ass on special teams and he's one hell of an athlete. Fast, athletic, big play potential but he's constantly fooled by offenses and caught in awkward positions a lot (and we don't use him THAT much on D) Once he starts doing more with what he's given he needs to stay right where he's at. The Atlanta game was a deciding factor for me.

On another note, we need to do the very opposite with Dwayne Jarrett. CRUCIAL grabs on 3rd Downs this season!

The Atlanta game was a big negative for me as well. Marshall is a good player but at this point I'm not sure if either Marshall or Lucas should be a starting corner next year. For the money Marshall may have to be it. Keeping both Gross and Peppers is far more important than keeping Lucas at this point.

By midseason next year Marshall will be a better option at starting CB than will Lucas. He has better recovery speed and adequate hands...Idk if its the coverages we have been running but teams are really picking on Lucas this year and it is showing in the last few games. He had busted coverage against Bryant multiple times last night (one so bad that Jaws even pointed it out). Watch next week...he will be matched up on a much faster Eddie Royal and I think that Royal could have a big game if we aren't careful with our coverage on him. I don't think you can justify switching Lucas and Marshall out this year but next year after Marshall has more training camp and offseason workouts to go through I think he will surpass Lucas.

I don't think the problem is all Lucas. I think it is a combo of Lucas/Godfrey working that side of the field. Looking at the past two weeks, Godfrey has not appeared to be in position and the play looks like Lucas is has been abused....when in at least some of those plays Godfrey wasn't in position or doing his job in coverage. The easy Jennings TD last week was a clue something was very wrong and not just individual ability, Lucas let him take a deep slant inside into wide open space. Sometimes guys take the heat b/c we don't know the roles of guys on plays and go w/ what we think occured.......I'm willing to bet Godfrey has a much larger role in all this.

ugh, nobody gets it, marshall is pretty much already a starter, there is no

difference with him being 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart

marshall is excellent but he is also small, he is ideal for the slot

lucas and gamble work the outside, they are big guys who play well in run support

thats the way it is, we have 3 great corners and they are not taking playing time away from eachother

The reason Marshall got 10 tackles is because he was burnt toast all night, and was usually tackling his man after the catch...I'm still waiting for him to defend a pass. And on that first big pass play, it was Marshall's blown coverage that caused it. They were in zone, and Lucas passed off to the deep guy (who was Marshall), but Marshall was out of position, allowing Bryant to make the big play.

Now Marshall's great at special teams, and he's a good tackler. But as a CB, he gives up way too many catches.

As for Lucas, he played horribly as well, and unless he really picks it up, I don't see him being worth what he will get paid next year. So I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a cap casualty this off-season.

Marshall is a much much better tackler and blitzer with upside in coverage. Lucas was embarassing last night. We can't pay huge contracts to veterans that are that clueless. Time to move on.
