Common sense from a Rams fan

I understand the frustration you guys are going through. Believe me. My Rams won three, two and one games from 2007-2009. A lot of you are looking at the current situation and thinking you are about to go through the same thing.

Chill. You aren't.

For one, you have an owner and a GM who want to win. That may sound like a given, but I can tell you from my experience that it's not. Hurney will hire a coach that he can get along with, and the scouts can get along with, and that alone will get you guys halfway back into contention. Fox had alienated himself with half the people in that building by the time he left.

Richardson may be a little eccentric (okay, a lot eccentric at this point), but the man does NOT want to go out like this. Trust me. He'll do what he can to get it turned around before he backs away, even if that means leaving everything to Hurney.

You also have a young core of four or five guys that you can build around. The new coach won't be facing what Steve Spagnuolo was facing in St. Louis.

You'll also face the Lions, Cardinals, Redskins and Texans next year.

Ever seen a person in an unhappy relationship? The last few months before the divorce are the toughest. Once they get away from that toxic person, suddenly they start getting their old mojo back.

I see seven wins as a very legitimate target for you guys next year.

Hmm...What happened to St. Louis? well.... They had a horrible season at the right time and got the #1 pick for a very very solid QB. Now they are on the rise. #1 pick QB is putting them on track for great things in the NFC West.

We had a bad season, thought it was the right time... but it wasn't. Our QB options all have big question-marks and aren;t solid #1 overall player like Bradford was.

The difference.... I doubt we will be in position again like St. Louis to take a true stud QB as the #1 pick.

I can't speak for others, but for me the biggest disappointment was not Andrew Luck staying, or missing out on Harbaugh. It was, by far, the statement Jerry made regarding not signing any of our free agents before a CBA was reached.

I do believe we have a solid core to build around, and we're not on the level the Rams or Lions were before they turned it around... HOWEVER, if we lose Kalil and Charles Johnson, we certainly will be. I'm sure Beason won't be too happy about not getting an extension(especially considering Demeco Ryans/Patrick Willis were both extended last season) too, and who knows if he wants to stick around after that.

I'm just not liking the way the franchise is headed.

The Luck thing was out of our control so there is no reason to freak out over it. You have to look at the situation objectively.. it sucks but you gotta move on.

Bottom line is no matter how bleak it looks, you have an owner who cares (he screwed up this past year...it happens) and a GM who generally knows what he's doing. Fox made the playoffs three times in his first eight years, and that wasn't good enough for Richardson.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
