JR upset with QB play, supports GM

Baltimore ranked 23rd in offense this year and 20th in passing. Given they had Flacco passing to Boltin, Housmandzaheh, Mason, and Stallworth that is not exactly a ringing endorsement.

zorn wasn't the OC, thats cameron. zorn was just brought in to help with flacco's development. his QB rating went up, his TDs went up and his INTs went down. at the very least he did no harm there.

ravens are still a run heavy/ball control team so they are going to be ranked kind of low anyways in passing categories. not making excuses...i just don't think zorn had much to do with anything beyond what flacco did as a passer.

jake locker = jimmy clausen

seriously do not want.

I understand why you feel that way. :P haha. I have reservations about him too. Would rather have Mallett or Gabbert.

when and where?

"It appears that the play of our quarterbacks has deteriorated over the last few years," Richardson said. from the linked article to me suggests he is not happy with the quarterbacks themselves, either. We may end up with Clausen just because we're not gonna be taking any of the QBs there at #1 barring crazy workouts.

edit: If he had meant just the offense needed an overhaul in the passing game he could have said that. He said play of our quarterbacks specifically.

I am not against Zorn but don't know if his experience matches up with our needs. Plus I don't know if he is even looking for a change. I doubt he makes a move unless it is OC and I don't know if he is the right guy for the job. Not saying he would be bad, but he is the same guy who had his offensive duties taken away for poor performance with Campbell. I guess it depends on what type of system we plan to run.

...and he addressed it by mentioning the priority is to find the best person to coach/develop the QBs.

when all of the quarterbacks are a problem, are the quarterbacks the real problem?

"all" the quarterbacks? we came into the season with matt moore and jimmy clausen, then picked up a legion of rejects and developmental players along the way. Sorry, but having a backup cave under pressure and a rookie be terrible is not hard to fathom.

yes, jimmy clausen is the problem, and they know it. whether they can do anything bout it is another story.

For some reason I think we're going to trade with Cleveland, move to #6 and I'm gonna hear "with the sixth pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select Blaine Gabbert, Quarterback, Missouri."

funny thing is he could be gone by 6.

i would say that zorn is a lot mroe appealing as an OC if we have an offensive minded HC who will more be in charge of the offense. if that is the case then i want someone at OC who can focus on either developing the QB or the WRs (specifically here curtis johnson, the WR coach for the saints).

i do think it will be tricky mixing the OC or offensive HC with the QB. for example, if we somehow hired lil schotty as HC (or even OC) i wouldn't really want him here with cam newton. schotty needs a cerebral QB for his ideal offense and has been limited as to what he can do in NY w/ sanchez. i don't see newton being more intelligent than sanchez so there might be a problem.

i wasn't refering to just 2010.

delhomme was good enough, but when was the last time carolina had a good qb?

so with all the qb/backups over the years...even before fox was hired, no qb was good enough to be groomed and developed?

that's a scouting/coaching problem.

Moore the last few games of last year was damn good. He was also good in his rookie year. This year he stunk when the pressure got to him and the team around him wasn't doing well.

Ok, so even if it is, you change that by getting new scouts and coaches and getting new quarterbacks, no?

QB? not if they feel what they have is still salvageable.

I suppose if JR's talk is meaningless and he's content with mediocre offense, then yes, you go with Clausen. Or if he really trusts Hurney's evals of him from last year.

Hell we could all be wrong. Maybe Clausen is the next Drew Brees. I just kinda doubt it.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
