I am really looking to see who people think we can bring in to run our offense this year I know there are a few options but what do the people think. McNabb struggled some this year but its not like we need a passing game to lead us we need it to be decent because our run game should be back on track. He throws a great deep ball, or Kyle very effective and effecient are there other options????

Kyle O. to San Fran

or just to be trading him for a second

According to JR, we will focus more on the passing game. No to McNabb.

Orton... despite what some fans may think, he was very solid in Chicago and even better in Denver..

Orton is looking better and better he is an accurate passer who reads the field well, but it seems like something is lacking from his game I don't know what it is though.

As far as Vick goes how the Hell can we take him away from the Eagles they are in the driver seat even if we offer more money he is going to be loyal to the team who restored his career. Along with the fact they have probably the best wide reciever combo out don't see him as a REALISTIC option. But we never know

I'm good with orton but I also like Alex Smith, I know there are a lot of people that won't agree but he is young and could be a perfect guy to come in and make big boy throws. He is a decent QB and if we bring in Green he would have more weapons than he ever did in SF.

Smith may not be that talented but he has somehow hung around despite being written of time and time again.

He has a bit of determination and hard work in him, that's the kind of guy we want to bring in.

Two ways to go with this one:

1. If you are looking for a vet to help Jimmy on the sidelines, and help deal w/ inuries on occasion. Then you need to bring in somone like Bulger. This assumes that the franchise is willing to give Clausen more time to develop and surround him with a better / more experienced supporting cast.

2. JR / Hurney do not think Clausen is the answer and would be best suited as a backup. In that case you bring in someone like Youmg, Kolb, etc... who could possibly be a full-time starter and not just a mentor.

Is it me or am I going crazy, Orton isn;t a free agent right? He signed a one year extension to take him through the 2011 season?!

I thought they tagged him... at least that's what I remember, him being one of the people that got screwed because of the new requirements to be a FA

Nope he signed a one year extension in August 2010 to take him through 2011. So the only way we can get him is through a trade.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
