Also on the ESPN Blog:

"It might be time to stop celebrating Tampa Bay’s 10-6 season. The Bucs reportedly have lost special teams coach Rich Bisaccia to the San Diego Chargers.

While losing a special teams coach might not seem like that big of a deal, it is in this case. Bisaccia is one of the league’s best when it comes to coaching special teams and that was an area of strength for the Buccaneers in 2010."

I have no expertise/knowledge in the area, but don't we need a new ST coach?

I agree, a lot of good stuff here... with our RBs and if the oline can get healthy we don't have to have a great QB... a good game manager will do. Use our first pick on D, have a kick ass D, and run the hell out of the ball and hopefully we can find a good FA QB or develop someone. With Luck out of the mix we need to use our first pick with the best available player and use what we have elsewhere for now.

He won't be, he shouldn't be, but he will need to compete for the job. I don't want to go into next year EXPECTING him to improve to a poitn where he is an NFL quarterback. I want that to be an option but for us to have other plans in case it turns out he simply won't be.

right.. I agree with you, and I think he will improve.. especially with a good QB coach, which should be expected to be brought in soon..

kind of what everyone needs to realize.. Clausen won't be kicked to the curb based on last year, and it's absurd to assume so..

Thank you. I tried my damndest to convince people that Davidson's system was horrible for a rookie QB. Too many slow developing routes.

the offensive system was dumbed down as far as one could be and he still couldnt do poo

that's incredibly incorrect..

please read someone who knows what they are talking about:

When Clausen first came in against the Bengals, there was a comment the offense had been simplified for him after the game if I recall. It was during a presser I thought though and I'm not going to go watch 'em to be sure. It may have been a later game, can't recall, but there is 0 indication it was that way at the end of the season, or that the simplification helped him at all, considering the routes our WRs were running.

Completely irrespective of who the QB was...I'm horrified that our already stupidly simple offense could have been simplified anymore at all. I mean really?

I have no idea what was done or how it was done or any of that, so I can't comment on that. I know the comment was made, though, because we actually had a discussion about it here with some people saying "Moore didn't need a simplified offense!!"

Matt Moore most definitely ran a simplified offense when he came in as a rookie. Besides that, the running game was clicking as well as ever when he made his first few starts.

The bottom line is that pretty much every team in the NFL has a short passing game now (not just WCO teams), except us. If you watched many of Sam Bradford's games, you know that the vast majority of his throws were 10yds or less, while Clausen was standing back there waiting for deep crossing routes to develop and there were usually only two WR's running routes to begin with.

That is a huge difference for a young QB.

I am really excited about Rivera, and a couple of things that have been highlighted are the reason

1. Going to establish a primary TE that will help the QB, whoever it ends up being.

2. Aggresive, fundamentally solid defense.

3. Teaching the young players how to play the game properly

4. one of the biggest things I heard, and correct me if I am wrong, but I am fairly certain he mentioned something about using offense aggressively and not just to maintain a small lead.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
    • You gonna make me post Stank before every game?  I kid, I kid.
