Could Matt Moore still be our guy?

Just read the OP...

I don't see why we would bring Matt Moore back. He has limited upside, and is unlikely to know the playbook. Regardless of whether we draft a QB or not, I could see us bringing in someone who is well versed in the playbook just to get the offense off to a good start. Meanwhile, Clausen and the other QB can learn the plays and not hold the rest of the offensive players back.

I believe they were redzone interceptions not endzone but we get your point.

He had a bad game for whatever reason, but to assume that he is incapable of playing QB in the NFL because of one game is silly, especially considering how well he had played up to that point.

No one is saying he's the GOAT, were just saying that those who think he sucks focus too much on one or two games and base their whole opinion of him around that and others look at his whole career.

To draw conclusions that he "can't handle the pressure" because of one opening day start is unfair at best.

Maybe it's unfair, but it looks pretty bad when he's lighting it up at the end of 2009 in a no-pressure situation and then comes out in 2010 and lays an egg when the pressure is on.

Term those interceptions any way you want... a competant 4th year QB shouldn't have thrown them.

I think he crap his pants under the pressure of being a starter and admitted it.

Good point, thank you - let's not debate whether or not Moore couldn't handle the pressure... he admitted he couldn't.

Maybe he can figure out how to handle it, but space is precious on an NFL roster and I'd like to go find another QB that can.

It also helps to have some support around you, like a decent running game, but let's ignore all other factors and pretend they were constant and only focus on if he came into season #1 or not.

Nearly every QB in the league has a 3 interception game, some have 4 interception games. Are they not competent either?

You guys are taking that quote out of context but whatever.

If roster space is precious than you must cut Clausen as well right?

He couldn't even handle it when there was no pressure (don't gimme the rookie crap, Moore and every other rookie this year did better than him, every single one)

Is it unfair to say that Moore couldn't handle the pressure of being the starter from the beginning because he said the pressure got to him, or is that unfair too?

Not saying he can't learn to, just that it clearly got to him this year.

I also like the fact that people keep saying he looked better then Jimmy.

Well wasn't he suppose 2???

He had been playing, learning, in the same system for 4 years.

I expect him 2 be better then a rookie. The problem was he didn't bulid on the success from last season.

I never said he was elite and I'm clearly not the only one who thinks he's better than you give him credit for.

You're being very childish and it's sad.

Again, I'm still waiting for all of those mental errors you were telling me about in the SF game...

Already been past this sweetheart.

It's a non-issue you keep bringing up in an effort to salvageyour argument.

LOL, how much context is there to Moore admitting that the pressure got to him?

When we arrive at the conclusion that Clausen can't handle the pressure or doesn't have the talent to play QB in the NFL then I would fully support cutting him, but we're not there yet because he's a rookie.

Moore on the other hand is a 4th year player, the pressure was on and he couldn't handle it... you talk about dumping Clausen, how much longer do we have to wait for Moore? We've given him 4 years of coaching, film study, veteran mentoring and even some game experience and he still folded under the pressure of being the opening day starter.

    • Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.
    • If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
