Pat Yasinskas on Cam Newton: Go get him.

Lafell and Gettis will likely be very solid Moose-type receivers for us. I like what I saw from them, for the most part. For the next few years until Smitty decides to retire, having starting receivers of Smitty, Green, Gettis with Lafell coming in on 4WR sets sounds very appealing. Then when Smitty retires, we'll have our Smitty-type Pro Bowler in Green, our Moose in Lafell, and Gettis as a halfway point between them (speed and bulk/presence)

The thing is that we need to upgrade the quarterback position and at this point many of the supposed free agents are likely not coming here. McNabb will want a multi year contract on the order of 4 years- 40 million. Anyone think richardson gives him that??

Fox loves veterans so he isn't going to let Orton get away.

Volek might be a choice but is largely unproven and says he is happy in San Diego. At 35 he is the same age at Delhomme and may not be very durable.

So exactly who is this veteran we are going to get?? And will it be before the draft??

Rivera has 4 years to show he is a head coach. Anyone think he sits backs and counts on Clausen to be the guy. I doubt he wastes a year sitting pat.

So we are likely to draft a guy unless the new OC thinks Pike is better than Fox thought. Otherwise you try to get a vet, keep Clausen and another guy to develop. It might not be Newton and it might not be the first round but I doubt Rivera does nothing.

It will be interesting to see how much decision making Hurney has versus Rivera. I suspect if Hurney is the main player then he may pass on a QB rather than admit the mistake in drafting Clausen by drafting another.

You can't pass on such a talented player.

I know many of our upstanding citizens on this board still hold a grudge against this guy and his family for all the stuff in the media so their opinions will always be skewed.

For those of us who love the game and who are not trying to assemble a choir but a winning football team instead can only hope our FO is not stupid enough to overlook perhaps the best player in college.

The guy is clutch under pressure and from what his teammates say is a great leader. He has the size, the speed, a big arm and Big Ben like improvising in the pocket. Pass?

As far as football goes this guy is the real deal and to overlook him would be ignorant indeed.

Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.....I can't believe I read this whole thread. My head hurts.

So, to summarize....Fig Newton is not worth crap. But yet he won the National Championship of the BCS (or BS). Won the Heisman, but very few of those do really well, so I guess that is actually a minus. And won a bunch of football games this year, while his father or someone may have been trying to sell his soul (or services) to the Devil before the season for about, what, $175,000? He suppossedly bought, or whatever, a stolen computer and left Florida. Played at Blinn Junior College, then at Auburn for only this year and is now going pro. No offense, but no matter what kind of year he had, would like to see our Number One draft pick have played more than one year at Auburn. Even Clausen had one fairly good year at Notre Darn. Dang!

Also, several people are racist, or are not. Do not want a black QB, or do, even though we have had a black QB as a starter previously, and never would have known that he was black if I hadn't seen him myself. (Is that why Armanti Edwards didn't play but a couple of plays in three games?) We hired a Mexican/Puerto Rican Hispanic American coach this week, but the Grand Dragon of the Sisters of the Poor says we do not want to draft a particular QB because of what color he happens to be? Come on now. Get real. Quit that crap. Stir up people some other way than to say things like that.

    • It puts more pressure on being right, I always feel trading back is the move 97/100 times. There are times where you fall in love and if that guy is only 7 spots away and the cost is only a 6th or pick swap......why not?? so long the cost is low, Im more willing to do so.  Still one of the best teams at trading back and they torn apart the Panthers on those trades; Pats. You still have to pick the players, that's what happens. In theory you should also add picks, but it does get to point of eight 3rd rounders or two late 1st and a 2nd?? I mean every draft is different, so the talent maybe not fall off a cliff after pick 50. Case by case deal, but vastly I prefer to trade back.....another curve if you trade back and the scouts/coaches have not planned for it. You have to be ready and know the spot you are trading too (everyone). Just like trading out of 1st round two weeks before the draft, that hurts your team as they have been focused on pick 10 and now its wait until pick 42....

    • IDK, just I know these mock drafts are time "wasters" and even more before FA cause that does change a huge portion of the needs. I think Panthers are in on Lloyd, but just like Milton Williams if the numbers get too high they will change course and still sign one of the lesser ILB. I've also seen reports Panthers want boom back as well, but as STer/backup.   Personally Ive put Wallance in the Ickey, Brooks zone....... Acting like he's not on the team and if he shows out during OTAs, mini, and TC GREEEAT!!! I feel Panthers need to sign at least one and draft 1-2....hell even add another Bam-like UDFA in the UD pool too. Trade is on the table, there have been many trades than past years......   Given the team history, the LB corp is saddest ever. Still the league isnt paying ILB and Panthers finally got with that trend. I do feel Evero wants a IBL that can blitz and everyone wants one able to pass cover.  I feel no matter what, Panthers will draft one in the mid rounds and add a couple in the UDFA class.
