He did say that he had some good players in Carolina. (Implied better than the record) He was interviewing with a San Diego radio station....they did not ask and did not care about Panther players. The comment about wanting all of the Charger players was just politically correct.

we know it was a reference to the fact that he didn't say a certain player's name on the air during his presser, so a lot of fans were positive that meant he wasn't going to be on the team.

When Jimmy Johnson took over the Dolphins, he told the players that nobody was a lock to make it. He then looked at Dan Marino and said "you make it; you're number one".

After Larry Izzo made a superb special teams tackle and headed to the sideline, Johnson told him "congratulation, you're number two"

It wouldn't surprise me much if we took a similar approach.
