The Ravens fired offensive line coach John Matsko on Wednesday, two league sources said.

Matsko coached the offensive line for the past three seasons. The offensive line struggled this season, one of the reasons why the Ravens dropped to No. 14 in the NFL in rushing.

The Ravens are expected to promote Andy Moeller, who was the assistant offensive line coach.

According to the source, Matsko is interviewing with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday.

looks like some even-minded folks on this ravens message board (knew somebody was going to post the link)

http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/topic/33141-john-matsko-fired/

partly thinking he's a scapegoat for inconsistent line play, partly thinking he's the scapegoat for too many injuries, partly thinking it's a move to serve notice to cam cameron.

cameron is a real nfl vet, can't see firing one of his coaches to serve notice to the guy. might just be one of those things?

So why did they fire him? Other than somebody has to take the blame for something.

Probably because the line had a bad year this year...

The Ravens allowed 40 sacks during the regular season and struggled to protect quarterback Joe Flacco in the playoffs.

Mostly due to injuries on the line. Before this year, Baltimore's like was pretty good the previous 2 years.

Yeah, this guy is the one I'm most skeptical of. 40 sacks isn't something that sits well with me personally. Gotta read some more on him. Could be a steal though.....

You have to remember, also, that Gaither was hurt for a while.

    • No, you're right. It doesn't mean you can't call out his flaws and poor play. But it also doesn't mean you can't admit when he plays well and shows improvement. Not you personally, just in general I mean.
    • I will say, I do think there's a version of Bryce that could be really successful as a high-volume passer in a spread-based offense built around quick throws and timing-based intermediate throws with deeper throws schemed up around them. I actually think the power run based offense we're running is a poor fit for Bryce as it requires him to play under center far more often. It's a very traditional offensive approach whereas I think a scheme that spreads defenses out and lets Bryce distribute the ball quickly with anticipation and accuracy is the sweet spot for him. The key, of course, is to find a way to run the ball efficiently out of those formations. Our personnel right now (backs and OL) aren't good fits for that style of offense and I'm not sure it's a scheme Dave Canales favors very much either.
    • I root for him, and I hope for the best, as does essentially everyone. But that doesn’t mean you can’t call out flaws and bad plays. And that’s what a lot of people get wrong.  I hope I’m wrong and that he continues to improve a lot, I just doubt it. But I’ve been wrong before
