If we draft AJ Green and keep Steve Smith, what will be the starting lineup at WR?

Not as cut and dried as it may appear. Smitty is arguably still a number one caliber receiver, but he's declared multiple times that he wants to play in the slot around other guys better than him.

Enter Brandon Lafell and David Gettis - two young guys who've shown a ton of potential... and then after april, if we draft Green, we've got perhaps the highest potential of all. Who, then, gets the start? Does it get decided in camp? Is it already a foregone conclusion? Will there simply be a constant rotation based on the offensive situation and the play called?

Any way it shakes out it'd be a great problem to have. Wide receiver could finally be one of the team's biggest strengths for the first time since the 2003 season.

We have a former God who is becoming mortal with smitty.

The 4th and 5th most productive rookies in 2010 who look like they could take strides as major contributors. Hell if Dwayne Jarrett had a season like that his bandwagon would turn into a massive sex orgy caravan.

Then we have what I remember some draft mag had rated as the #1 boom or bust prospect in the country. He's at #33 in this years draft. When he's been on the field he has looked like a fish out of whatever but his talent is undeniable. He needs a thicker lower frame and probably another 2 years before he could really be an essential cog in the machine. But boom or bust he needs to see the field.

So that's 4 guys already that while it's not anything special compared to the rest of the league, it's not nearly as dire as defensive tackle, quarterback or tight end.

Getting a tight end would make the offense far more dynamic than having 4 WR sets on a team that is built to run. Suddenly a 21 personnel group just says "we're probably going to run" rather than "wait for us to put the flanker in motion for the 8th time in the same drive and tackle Stewart for a loss".

I don't think that matters anymore. Doesn't matter what this team was built to do. We're starting pretty much from scratch and also, judging by last year you could have fooled me we were built to run.

Green is my top pick, and would lot to have a guy of his size and athletic ability at WR. We have been looking for someone like him for years to fill a #2 spot, and now that Smith's career is on the downside, we need someone like Green even more.

I am 100% on the Green bandwagon, but something tells me it won't happen:frown5:

yea seems like everybody's on the Fairley bandwagon

i think there will be talented DT in FA but owell i'll be happy either way

(but more happy with AJ Green)

Yea, that's pretty much how I'd feel. I'd much rather have Green but I won't have negative feelings if we take Fairley. I would probably have some negative feelings if we take Gabbert at #1 (or any QB...).

In regards to the topic of the thread, I think in 2 WR sets it'll be Smitty and Green; 3 WR sets it'll be Green, Gettis, Smitty in the slot.

the guy who is doing the building seems content with fitting the system to the players at least on defense. I don't think his philosophy would be much different for offense.

He also seemed very set on finding a capable tight end.

we've been looking for years to find someone to fill a #2 spot. And we have 2 guys that looked like they could possibly do that next year. Very encouraging play. I'm not holding my breath after Colbert having the worst sophmore slump ever.

The WR corp isn't tops in the league but DT and QB should really be ranked about 38th out of 32 teams because of how shitty they are.

We have guys 5 deep that we KNOW cannot being a starting defensive tackle in this league. All of our Tight Ends are blockers. QB is a disaster area. CB will have a sizable whole as I doubt Marshall stays.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to draft Green based on need. DT and QB are the worst in the league. Those positions shoulder the majority of the blame for why the team sucked this bad.

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
