points win the game but they don't paint a good picture on proving great defenses are better than great offenses.

This is because the offense affects the amounts of points that are scored by the opposing team. If the take an early lead or if they hold the ball for long amounts of time that helps out the defense. Yards per play would be a better stat IMO. It specifies the defense better.

So??? Last year you had 3 of the top offense left in the final four, and two of them played in the superbowl.....

Using the same 8 teams for original comparison purposes, last year it was split 4 and 4. 4 of 8 were in the top 8 offensively and 4 of the 8 were in the top defensively. If you want to add those together you have 11 of 16 were top defensively and only 6 of 16 were top offensively.

What are you taking your chances with in this "offensive era" of football?

Ah the famous, "I'm going to try and shut up the people that want us to be an Offense First team!" thread...version 43.

Ooooh, I know, let's have the best D next season but start teh Jimmy! It'll work! D pwns all!

The best D would be nice, it'd probably get you a first round bye and a game in the divisional round. With just a minor upgrade over Clausen we'd have a shot at the conference championship and SB.

Don't ignore the facts.

Pretty much if you look at recent history you need either

A) An above average QB who can make plays and win games, a very good running game, and a TOP Nfl defense.

or

B) A Top NFL QB + An above average defense.

Pretty much all of the recent successful teams (Superbowl) fit in 1 of those 2 categories.

Neither is going to guarantee you a superbowl because there are other very good teams in the NFL, and in the Playoffs some very good teams lose to other very good teams.... But when you have a team built like that it gives you a chance to constantly be a factor.

haha yes, clearly TheRealDeal wants us to start Clausen next season!

It's important to note that playing stout defense with a good running game isn't necessarily "living in the past" like some have said... but obviously, not everything thinks that.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
