Defense is still the key

What we have proven is that the combination of a great defense and a balanced offense is the best combination.

Plus very good QB Play

These are the QB's from the past 10 superbowls.

2010 Ben Roth vs Rodgers

2009 Peyton Manning vs Brees

2008 Ben Roth vs Warner

2007 Eli Manning vs Brady

2006 Peyton Manning vs Groosman

2005 Ben Roth vs Matt Hassleback

2004 Tom Brady vs Mcnabb

2003 Brady vs Jake

2002 Brad Johnson vs Rich Gannon

2001 Brady vs Warner

15 of the 20 were Elite guys during the year they made the superbowl

3 of the 20 were arguably a little above average... Eli, Hassleback and Jake

Only 2 of the 20 were below average QB's, Groosman and Johnson.

It's not an either or thing people!!!! You need a very good defense AND Very good Quarterback play!!!! The better your quaterback, the more you can get away with some suspect defense play.... Ex Colts, Cardinals, Rams....

And if you have a year were your defense is just Awesome, one of the best in years, where they just do not give up points or yards no matter what the offense does... then you can get away with some suspect QB play.

But both of those situations a rare and hard to build consistency with.... There are very few QB's who will come along and be able to carry a team with no defense, and very few defense that can carry an offense no with suspect QB play!

If you want to win you need a Very Good Defense AND Very Good QB play!! That simple. Not either or.

Bout to say, they OVERLOOKED the QBs of both teams. It really takes both to be effective. The last 4-5 years, the rules have and ARE changing to make it EASIER for offenses to score (even on good defenses). I'd be happy with a pretty good defense and and offense they can score when needed. That being said, draft a well rounded TE, bring in a vet QB, and draft AJ Green. The defense can be addressed in the draft (after Green) and free agency. Hate to look back 3 years from now and say " damn sure wish we had drafted AJ Green". But I digress...

WILL PEOPLE STOP USING THE F*CKING TERM FRANCHISE QB? DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT A F*CKING FRANCHISE QB IS? CLAUSEN IS OUR FRANCHISE QB. ALEX SMITH WAS THE FRANCHISE QB IN SAN FRAN. GARRARD IS THE FRANCHISE QB IN JACKSONVILLE. The Golden Calf of Bristol IS NOW THE FRANCHISE QB IN DENVER. JAMARCUS WAS A FRANCHISE QB.

Franchise =/= good

Yes it does dumbass.

The term "Franchise QB" is lingo used in the NFL...by the media, experts, coaches, etc. to represent an elite QB.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
