I have that book autographed by the author I got it from the local lioness club for 75 cents. Forever ago.

Good read.

I'm excited to read it, it's a much thicker book then the books Fowler and someone else put out (Chandler?)... seems to contain much more detail and insight.

Looked up the main author Menzer, he was the Panthers beat writer for the Winston-Salem paper at the time, now he writes for NASCAR.COM

Based on the amount of detail captured in this book it sounds like we lost a pretty good beat writer.

More tidbits:

- Panthers knew that contacting Capers was technically "tampering" but they had received the blessing of the Steelers FO and coach Cowher and Polian figured it would be worth whatever penalty they had to pay to get they guy the wanted. Polian saw Capers as another Marv Levy and McCormack saw Capers as another Paul Brown.

- I knew that Gibbs was the original first choice for the HC job and talks got very serious. I didn't know (or remember) that Spurrier was the # 2 candidate, apparently Polian crossed him off after spending some time with him and concluding he didn't have the work-ethic to be a successful NFL head coach.

Panthers typically are solitary animals which makes them a weird choice for the name of team. They are also very rare as they are typically infertile as well as particularly ornery animals stemming from frequent inbreeding amongst the species.

Sounds perfect for us.

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
