Good article on Rivera...

Meeks scheme was much simpler. I highly doubt it. With a shortened OTA and training camp due to possible CBA issues, I don't expect our defense to show the aspects he spoke about this year at all.

This is my concern as well.

a shortened training camp and offseason will have a HUGE impact on us. Learning a new scheme...bringing in new players....all takes time.

This is definitely a multi-year project unless a miracle happens with the CBA.

But But But....I don't understand.. people here have been guaranteeing me were gonna draft Nick Fairley because Rivera likes tEh defenccce. But if Rivera runs all these difficult stuffz, then that must meens that there is more than 1 way to play D.....and Fairley cant do all that sillies complercatid stuffiiz! I dont like all this noob stuff Riveriaz wants to do. DTs are good for being manly menz and hitting people and thats all! None of this nonsince!! Should've hireed the Cowher!

Meeks scheme didn't start out simpler. He simplified it because some of the guys on the defense weren't getting it.

The "who" of that story is unknown, but I have to admit that concerns me moving on to the next step :(

That worries me as well. Did you guys know Mike Gillhamer's degree was in special education? ;)

I hope the players pick this defense up faster than they did with Meeks Scheme.

all this goes back to reports of meeks not being a good communicator and fox taking back over the defense.

not sure who was the problem catching on either, but i do know of one big eared goon whose not known for being the brightest crayon in the box. who missed most of the offseason that first year. that might have been part of the issue. gamble and marshall aren't all that bright either.

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
