Danny Watkins, G, Baylor

Most of the players in the Senior Bowl have played football since they were kids. But Baylor offensive lineman Danny Watkins didn't take up the game until he went to junior college.

Watkins played hockey and rugby while growing up in Kelowna, British Columbia, and served as a part-time firefighter. The 26-year-old didn't take up football until going to Butte College in Oroville, Calif., in 2007, but he picked up the game quickly enough to make all-conference at Butte and All-Big 12 at Baylor.

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said he's had an impressive week in Mobile, and should have a solid pro career.

"He's heavy-handed, he finishes, and he's nasty," Mayock said of Watkins, who was picked fourth overall in the 2010 Canadian Football League draft but elected to stay at Baylor. "He's been coached really well. From a technique perspective, I watched him at left tackle at Baylor this year, and he's got some natural bending ability and he's really naturally strong. They call it a six-inch punch, and he can jar you with that six inches."

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
