Cat Scratch Reader article about what offense we will run.

The thought of Clausen running an Air Coryell attack doesn't encourage me much. He's way better suited to a West Coast Offense :(

Honestly, of guys that are connected (sort of) to the Panthers right now, the QB with the best skill set is probably...(cue dramatic music)...Matt Moore.

I still think our starter for the coming year will be a vet like Volek though.

Im going to have to agree with you on this one Mr.Scott. Thats why I think we will def get a FA QB and may even draft a QB.

I don't think we will avoid offensive systems just because Clausen is incapable of running them... since I don't think the job is Clausen's yet.

Moore seems like a QB that could run this system, but we'll see how it goes.

Turner's version seems like it could work well with Clausen.

I remember when Cyberjag was just a poster on this board and not a "website journalist" who was never wrong.

I'm still just a poster, never claimed to be a journalist, and even admitted to being wrong about Meeks in that particular story. I just like to write. But now I get where you're coming from, I guess. :-/

I thought it was a great write-up, thanks for taking the time.

I may be wrong, but I think dimbee was attempting to compliment you.

I know that every coach approaches a situation with a certain philosophy, but I think great coaches adapt their philosophy to the strengths and weaknesses of the personnel they have on-hand. I think this is one of the major areas the last coaching staff failed in, we ran the philosophy right into the ground.

Clausen doesn't have anything close to the kind of arm Rivers, Aikman or even Derek Anderson has - so I have a hard time believing we can be successful with the kind of play action, deep passing attack that's at the core of this system with Clausen under center... and I think our FO still views Clausen as our QB of the future, so I think Chud will need to make some serious adaptations to this offense to suit Clausen in order to be successful.

rivers is not known for his arm but is known for his accuracy, bulger & warner also had success in this offense(martz's go for broke style)without rocket arms. both made quick decisions & were accurate, which is what clausen will have to be if he wants to play here

I hear you. The Turner variant (and what Chud ran in Cleveland) mixes SOME long passes in, but does a ton of short-to-mid range stuff as well. The Browns were something like 3rd in the NFL with passes over 20 yards, but their average gain per pass was something like 14.4 to their receivers (I'm goign by memory). That suggests a lot of short stuff, with deep attempts when they're appropriate. And just about any QB can do that.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
