Crazy coaching rumors

There were rumors floating around this morning that...

- Andy Reid was being dismissed from the Eagles so they could hire Jon Gruden

- Sean Payton was leaving the Saints head coaching job and would take a position as an assistant coach on the Cowboys staff

I can somewhat understand buying into that first one. But the second one? Seriously? How on earth could anybody buy into that?

My buddy who is a Bucs fan told me about the Philly thing earlier. Said they were really hoping for a Philly/TB MNF game if Gruden went there.

The source of the Gruden rumor was apparently the Facebook page of a former Eagles player (yeesh).

The Payton rumor? Apparently it got started because Payton is building a house in Dallas.

(sound familiar?)

Both made their way into internet chatter but have now been scotched by the respective organizations.

I hear Vince Lombardi's brain is going to be restored and put into a surrogate body ad become the coach for a new expansion team.

Doesn't that sound about as believable as Payton taking an assistant head coach job in Dallas? lol

Confirmation from PFT that he is moving to Dallas, but not coaching there.

No credence to the rumors, but admittedly, that is a little odd.

The rumor I read on PFT about Payton was that he was going to take a job as GM in Dallas...not quite as ridiculous as the the notion of assistant coach, but ridiculous nonetheless.

Maybe, but you could also say the notion of Jerry Jones allowing anyone else to run his team is ridiculous too

Originally saw it in a couple of different places. Some said GM. Others said assistant. I remember thinking "what the heck?" :confused:

The rumors have obviously been dispatched, but I admit I'm still left wondering why Payton wants to live somewhere other than where he coaches. Given just how workaholic some of these guys are, it's hard to imagine wanting to make the job even tougher by living further away from it.

I can only imagine living away from there for a few weeks/months a year and the separation from constant haranguing of fans is well worth it.

Agreed. I'm sure he has some affinity for the place after his coaching time there and he's a country boy at heart... which isn't really the N'Awlins vibe, from what I know
