So Jerry Richardson...

Got his infrastructure built for him with our money, and did it in such a way that fans have to buy tickets in order to not lose their initial investment. Then he raised prices while purposely giving us a lesser product last year just so he could pocket the extra money and build a war chest to use as leverage while he locks out his workers until they agree to work longer hours for less money. All this while he's already profitable.

Gordon Gekko wears Jerry Richardson pajamas.

Jerry might just be ahead of the curve. We didn't have the pieces in place to win a title, so why not clean house before the storm? I understand your feelings about this, but JR answers to folks as well (49% or so). In the end and with hindsight, we should be better off.

I think Jerry thought we could win with the young players. And next season, we will be glad they played. We get the following back: Williams, Stewart will be healthy, Otah, Davis, Wharton, Connor. Rookies from 2010 who could see tremendous improvement: Clausen, Edwards, Lafell, Gettis, Norwood (D fits him nicely at SLB), Hardy, Pike, and Pugh.

Meanwhile, we are millions beneath the cap.

Healthy. We have to sign about 3 UFAs and retain about 3.

And for those who think he screwed up by speaking to Manning the way he did, consider this:

1. What would Manning say to JR if he poked his head into his huddle and questioned his play-calling? Ask Jeff Saturday how that turned out.

2. It was the players who made that public. If you have a meeting behind closed doors, keep it there.

3. JR never butts into the coaching of the team. He stays out of the papers and rarely gives interviews. The reason? The press maniplates, twists, fabricates, etc. He wants the focus to be on the product. He is not interested in showboating, attracting attention to himself, feeding his ego like Jones, Davis, or other owners. However, Manning was playing his game, and JR schooled him. Don't for one minute think that his knowledge of Xs and Os converts makes him knowedgeable about dollars and cents.

JR is trying to preserve the league to keep the locusts from eating more than half the crop. We are a small market team. Appreciate him.

It gets me how people can support the players and gripe about ticket prices.

This really should have been a topic of discussion at the town hall meeting last night. ;)

    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
