Official 2011 NFL Combine Thread W/Schedule

Todd McShay on Blaine Gabbert:"Don't underestimate how talented he is. He's more accurate than Cam Newton."

Gabbert is more accurate when he has the ability to be comfortable and throw. The problem for me is his pocket presence. He loses his mind when he thinks feels pressure. That worries me bc that was what happened with David Carr. When Carr felt comfortable he was very good unfortunately, in the NFL you rarely feel comfortable.

Cam will experience that as well but he has the athletic ability to compensate for some of that and even occasionally make big plays when that happens until he gets more comfortable in the pocket.

If Gabbert can't get over that he will be ineffective. But if he does develop agood pocket presence he can be a star.

My question is HOW DO WE KNOW THIS. He will not throw at the Combine so no one will get to see him under pressure. I would not be so down on him if he was not hiding something.

Accturlly David Carr was good under pressure coming out of College. He was just used as a punching bag for 3 years. Getting hit that many times by a guy that weighs 250+ will make anyone gun shy.

Still if Gabbert cant handle throwing pressure at the combine then how is he going to come game day?

damn virgil green is a workout warrior @ TE. the 40 time was good/great for a te, but all i want to know is the 10 and 20 yard splits. guys broad jump and vert were incredable. i am much more intrested in the off the line burst guys have than the top end speed. fair production out of that wacky offense in nevada

a late round flier is jordan cameron. usc te that was a former basket ball player. just saying...... why not in the 6th or 7th if you want a tall athletic te to coach up. experiance is nill but triangle numbers are great so far.

1 guy i would love to here more about is jarriel king. USCe can we get a report. sounds like this years bruce campbell from last year.

oh and marcus cannon needs to be the 1st pick of the 3rd round. he is a mammoth RG that is nimble for his size. he and otah would be a tremendous for any rb we put back there. he came in at a light 358 (played at 370) and looks the part of a mauling G. i dont think he is anything more than a solid RT if forced outside but a beast inside.

Tightends I like while watching the combine

Virgil Green 6"3 3/8 249 40 time 4.64 looks amazing bumped his stock up

Jordan Cameron 6"5 1/4 254 40 time 4.59 looks solid

Robert Hostler 6"5 3/8 248 40 time 4.55 needs work but has the tools

Kyle Rudolph and Weslye Saunders did not participate

julius thomas of portland state, who some huddler drew attention to a couple of weeks ago as a former basketball player and possible antonio gates protegé, looked really nice catching the ball. i'd say chud is definitely keeping his eye on him.

edit: just looked fantastic in another drill. he looks like a threat in the passing game.

    • I live in Indiana and took a trip that weekend to watch my two friend's teams play (Chiefs and Vikings) IN Minnesota when they were playing at a college field, I think TCF? Anyways, our plan was to watch the game (noon game) then do some shopping at the Mall of America, I wasn't planning on watching the Panthers play Seattle since I was out sight seeing and walking around after the noon game had ended. By the time we were walking back into the Mall the Panthers were down by 2 scores in the 4th or going into the 4th and we were all thirsty from walking around for 2.5 hours after the Vikings game so we decided to postpone shopping until after we ate. We found this nice little sports bar inside the mall that had the game on. Man, I'm so glad we skipped shopping because that was probably the most excited I've been in some time for a win. Beating Seattle in 2015 felt like the "monkey off the back" sort of feeling and I knew we had finally arrived as a team. The entire bar erupted when Cam hit Olsen for that walk off TD. Literally one of the greatest moments of my life. My friend wasn't so happy though lol, by the time the Panthers game ended ALL of the stores inside the mall had closed and he wasn't able to get any souvenirs. It was his first time watching a Vikings game live and making a trip like that so he was legit upset lol. I on the other hand couldn't have been happier.
    • This is the Buc's division to lose.  We come out on top only if the wheels come off if Tampa.  I agree we can be--and should be--better than the Saints and likely the Falcons.  A 9-8 season would be nice, but it isn't great.  It's mediocre and that something the Panthers haven't been in nearly a decade, but would be reason to celebrate.  Heck, the Steelers will likely fire Tomlin over a 9-8 season because they are tired of being mediocre.
    • First game was a awful stat line. 2nd DNP due to ankle Summer league doesn't help what hes bring, its dang near YMCA pickup game level.  I heavily question the type of player he is and his future was NOT, not not not what you use #4 pick on. Hornets got him on visit and still made the pick, they better hope he has some Larry legend in him. I maintain huge questions.
