BREAKING: Panthers make “meh”ssive changes to front office

Recommended Posts

Couple other things from a quick scan of the staff page...

Morgan is now listed as President of Football Operations. I don't recall seeing that particular title on him before. Ifit was there, I missed it.

Jared Kirksey - a former Jags and Bucs scout hired a few years back - now has Cole Spencer's old Director of College Scouting title.

Former safety Juston Burris is now listed as one of the team's Pro Scouts along with Adam Maxie, the son of one of the original Panthers safeties (Brett Maxie).

Maxie isn't the only one on staff with "dad" connections. Mike Trgovac's daughter Jordan is now our Mid-Atlantic area scout. She's working alongside West area scout Caden McCloughan, the son of former Redskins GM Scot McCloughan (the guy who basically drank himself out of a job).

Been a while since I've looked at this page. Definitely been some changes, and it won't surprise me if there are more.

Odd they aren't even replacing them.  They must have really felt they were doing nothing around there.

I take "absorbed internally" to mean basically that someone already on board will take over their duties. I suppose technically that could make it sound like they were redundant.

I'll grant it could also mean someone will be promoted but that's not how I took it.

Yeah, but I also factor in we got a rich owner.  If I were the guy in charge of hiring, I wouldn't mind spending Tepper's money if I felt we needed it at all.  Makes me feel they weren't doing much.

I don't see why we can't find a rockstar replacement, though.

If they felt like it was a "too many cooks" situation, bringing in somebody new would defeat the purpose.

Morgan's title certainly makes it sound like he's the man now as far as football decisions go. It's been said that Morgan is an old school "watch film" scout where Fitterer had embraced a more analytics style approach. That could mean things are being reshaped to fit what Morgan prefers (not to say analytics will be abandoned, mind you).

And of course, there's the addition of Tilis. Hard not to imagine he's had a voice in all this. Especially true given he's the second most powerful name on the org chart.

Between the two of them, Morgan and Tilis are certainly acquainted with some "rock stars" or potential rock stars in the scouting world. Still, If they feel they have the people necessary to do the job right now, that's good.

I think it's good to have both.  They can work off each other.

    • Because playoff hockey and regular season hockey aren’t the same thing.  It’s a combination of the game intensity being dialed up with loose officiating.
    • The last 8 weeks, Nix had 2,022 yards, 21 TDs, 6 INTs on 70% completions While Bryce's last 8 games he had 1,709 yards, 12 TDs (albeit adding 5 more rushing), 3 INTs on 61% completions. I'm not going to pretend I watched those Broncos games to know exactly how Nix actually looked, but in retrospect, his statistics were better.  Hell, in just his final 8 games, Nix had only 5 less TD passes than Bryce has in his 30 game (28 starts) career. And you said he had better WRs than Bryce did, but I'm not even sure that's even true either. Sutton and Thielen might be completely different types of WRs, but I'd say they are pretty equal on effectiveness if not even a slight edge to Thielen (63.6 YPG for Sutton to 61.5 for Thielen).  Then XL and Coker vs Marvin Mims and Devaughn Vale, again, at worst a push, if not lean in our favor there too. Why is it so hard for some Panthers fans to just objectively look at our team/Bryce and be honest with themselves. ? He was significantly improved the final two months of the season from his first season and a half.  But he was still a below average QB during that time, even if he had a few good throws and clutch moments.
