It benefits us if Miami and Ramsey aren't getting along.  They are probably looking for a trade partner and being one of those possible trade partners is a good thing.

I wouldn't give up any more than a 3rd rounder, preferably a 4th, but more importantly I would want Miami to absorb as much of his contract as we can get.  There have been several trades over the years where the receiving team gets relief from the trading team.  I don't believe we should do it unless there is substantial relief from his contract.

His familiarity of Evero and his defense really makes sense I just don't want us to have to be straddled with his contract for the next 3 or 4 seasons.

It's not the pick that concerns me. I'd throw a 3rd at him immediately.  But how does that impact our cap and the ability to sign our own players next year?

He wouldn't be insanely expensive for us but he wouldn't be cheap either. $9 mil for 2025 escalates to $19-20 mil for 2026 and 2027 and then skyrockets to $31 mil in 2028. But, after 2025 all the guaranteed money would be gone for us.

Right. Does mitigate the risk knowing there’s no guaranteed money after this season. A better secondary also helps the pass rush. It’s Tepper’s money not mine ha, as long as the pick is reasonable it makes more sense knowing about the guarantees. Or division is by no means world beaters, go for it

I just don't think it makes much sense for anyone involved. He isn't likely to want to be here after downgrading franchises in comparison. Nor does it make a lot of sense for us to have that much potential money tied up on a player closer to the end of his career than the beginning.

It makes sense for us because we could use a vet CB of his level opposite of Horn, even if it's a short term rental.

That makes it a lot more reasonable.  You can pull the plug whenever.  He might not be too happy about it though.

Oh yeah on face level I agree…on the other hand if internally they believe they’re closer than we do then it makes a little more sense IF they do it. Which I doubt

An expensive veteran that doesn't want to be on a bad team? I fail to see the logic.

Yeah but why even waste ANY draft capital on a short term rental? Especially on a bad team. It's Fitterer/Rhule era "WE ARE ONE GUY AWAY" kind of BS.

I would rather just keep the draft capital, roll the cap space and continue to try and build through the draft.

I certainly hope they have finally come to the realization we aren't very close. That seems to be the general direction of our entire offseason when we avoided so many pricey veterans very similar to Ramsey.

I think they finally are taking a realistic and long term view of this roster building. I have no idea how it is going to turn out but it's way better than nuking our future season after season in an attempt to make that "one last move" to put us over the top.

We did it in 2015 when everyone had us ranked in the 20s preseason.

I’d throw a 4th at it but nothing more than that.  The fact that the cap space can be reclaimed when needed makes it only a risk on a locker room/team chemistry basis.

    • It's your right to refer to it as vague, but it still flouts the theory of "zero evidence" that Tepper is changing. Here's another: "Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales and general manager Dan Morgan are reportedly being given a larger leadership role within the organization. Panthers owner David Tepper 'has taken a more hands-off approach of late,' according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. 'He's trying to trust Canales and GM Dan Morgan to get it right, knowing that the roster requires patience in its current state,' Fowler wrote. 'We shall see if he holds to that.'" https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10146782-report-panthers-david-tepper-has-taken-a-more-hands-off-approach-to-team   ""David Tepper just wants to win and he's gonna supply everything that we need to win.. Things are changing around here and things are looking really positive" ~ Dan Morgan  https://x.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/1917639137550627107?t=6vgo8yXTO6eD0Gb55hyzNg&s=19   From about 2:15-6:35, Julian Council, Locked on Panthers, gives his take on whether Tepper seems to be changing (and specifically referenced the war room in his analysis):    Dean Jones of Cat Crave on David Tepper in the war room. "He was an innocent bystander throughout a hugely important decision, placing full trust in Morgan and Tilis to make the right call." Jones also quoted Pat McAfee: "What I noticed though, at one point, they looked at (David) Tepper to get an answer, Tepper didn’t say sh*t. All anybody has said about Tepper is that he’s hands-on, hands-on, hands-on. Too handsy, too involved. He’s not letting the football people do their thing. We just watched in the biggest moment for their franchise, a top ten pick, he just sat there and let everybody do their jobs. I think if you’re a Panthers fan, you love everything you saw there." https://catcrave.com/silence-from-david-tepper-becomes-panthers-loudest-victory Granted, you're not getting a major headline here, but that's not going to happen anyway. Fowler isn't exactly a nobody, everybody knows McAfee, and you also have some locals that follow the team (including Dean Jones). Of course you have a right to believe that Tepper hasn't really changed, but to say there is no evidence that he just may be changing is not really true. It's just not. Hate the guy, but the way that he has handled this current regime is different than he handled previous teams, and his silence in the war room and publicly in general is different than years back.
    • Ehhh im not mad either way I don't think hes garbage but he was and is overpaid.... but he was a skating turnover machine.
    • My interpretation of his comments was somewhat different. And I took issue with his contract the day he signed. But it's all history now and doesn't matter in the big picture.
