2025 College Football Thread

ND is single handedly making me less interested in college football. It's gross to promise a team a spot like that. If they want in the playoffs join a conference or keep sitting on the sidelines.

The loss of the Pac 12 was the moment for me. If I watch the playoffs, it will be to look at specific NFL prospects.

That's mostly my reason to watch any of it anymore.

I love college football and generally enjoy it even more than the NFL but it is undeniably a mess right now with this NIL and transfer portal stuff and the whole ND thing is just beyond absurd. I know NFL fans bitched about the Pats for years and then the Chiefs for years about how they got special treatment but honestly most of that was just about the media and announcers dick riding them and a perceived friendly call here and there. They didn't get to not have to play in a conference, have their own special individual rep to lobby in their behalf when no other team does, nor literally get special clauses just for them to create a different standard for qualifying for the playoffs versus the standard for everyone else. And ND fans really have the nerve to take about a bias against ND? Well, no poo. If you don't hate ND you're not paying any attention.

It has always been a drastically inferior product to professional football because the backbone of it is intended to be an unfair, fixed system. Always has been but it has gotten worse in the Super TV contract era.

Even though the product should(and has) gotten better with the NIL and free agency, they go and ruin it again with the profiteering that destroys entire conferences.

I think when the inevitable happens of a smaller super conference(or super conferences) group that basically plays a different level of sport, that should be the thing that likely sets it on the NASCAR course of steep decline.

You should have to play in the bowl game to be eligible for next year's CFP.  Its that simple.

In a bowl game? That would basically eliminate any one year turnaround teams. Not very fair.

Notre Dame isn't hurting anyone but themselves. There should be no outrage over that.

No I meant if you opt out of the postseason, you shouldn't be playoff eligible the next season.  I didn't mean that it would be a requirement to qualify the previous year.

According to the Committee Chairman, losing a conference championship has zero effect on rankings.

If you’re Alabama.

But not if you’re JMU or Tulane of course.

CFP Rules:  “Things don’t matter except when they do.  Also, see Appendix A) Notre Dame rules.”

Yea, I mentioned this earlier in this thread.

BYU gets blown out, drops a spot.

Bama gets blown out, doesn't move.

OSU loses a close game, drops a spot.

Eh....this isn't the first time this has happened. The Big 12 fined two teams for doing this, which is more understandable because they share that money in the conference.

There is really no harm to ND doing this other than some potential loss in revenue from a TV partner like ESPN. None of us should care about that at all.

I'd like to see coaches and AP writers (who are largely conference / regionally affiliated) all give each other the "wink wink" to not vote Notre Dame into their top 25s next year during any part of the season.

Notre Dame's schedule next year doesn't give them a chance to post a "good win" until Nov 7th vs Miami, assuming Miami is good again.

The opening CFP rankings generally mirror the AP / Coaches polls at the time.  Would be a nice way to make sure Notre Dame starts at the back of the pack and has as hard a time as possible getting up to 12.

Well if you want the bowl games to collapse faster sure.

I don't care that they're sitting out the bowl game. Yeah, I'm gonna make fun of them for it but I honestly don't care. What I care about is all the special status treatment they get from everyone from the CFP to the ACC to the media. fug all of that. Just treat them like every other team in the country and if they don't like it then tell them to go fug off.

The rest of college football holds way more power combined than ND, it's not even close but they act like ND holds the cards. If the rest of college football told them to fug off and stopped scheduling them it would cause minimal overall drop off to college football as a whole while ND football would die very quickly. What are they gonna do, play community colleges? All the real players are gonna hit the portal and ND would be fielding a team of Rudy's in short order, viewership would fall off because no one wants to watch Rudy's play community colleges, the TV contracts would disappear and ND football would be dead.

That's exactly what needs to happen. The rest of college football needs to band together on this one and tell them stop, no more of this bullshit. No more special treatment. The same standards that apply to everyone else apply to you and if you don't like it then you can just stomp off and take your ball and go home... again. Just forever this time.

College football has zero ability to work together, they are too busy trying actively to rip each others throats out and destroy each others programs. They even do it inside their own conferences, especially the biggest conferences.

It's why they are ultimately doomed.
